Mr_Calavera
I just finished playing GF all the way through for the third time since I first got it. I bought it quite a few years ago and played it though and shelved it. Then played it again about a year and a half ago and got the urge to do it again this month. We all know that traditionally RP games don’t have a whole lot of replay-ability, but I think the folks that made GF did a great job of putting so much detail and side plots and humor in the game that it’s definitely worth going through again and again. This time through I took my time checking things out more thoroughly and I discovered many new lines that I had missed in the past. For instance, I never tried Manny on the stage of the Blue Casket before. Calavera’s a poet and I didn’t know it. And that line outside the florist shop “it’s amazing what human remains will do to spruce a place up” (Paraphrasing there, I don’t recall the exact wording). And quite a few others, so I enjoyed this play though as before. I am curious though; does anyone know if different releases of GF exist? Here’s why I ask. A few months back I found the GF cds in a thrift store. I didn’t need them since I still have mine, but they were still in the GF jacket and was only a $1.50 so I grabbed them. This set is the set I used this month and I noticed a few things. 1) When talking to Terry the sea bee he goes in to one of his tirades and you can plainly hear his voice change for one line then it goes back to his normal voice. It sounds like a line was dubbed over for some reason. Now, I didn’t catch this on my original CDs, but maybe it’s there and I didn’t notice it. 2) At the DOD site under Easter Eggs this one is listed “When Manny is in the giant cat stable, he will look down at the turds in the litter box. If you try to pick one up, Manny will just laugh and laugh.” Manny doesn’t laugh in mine, he just says “they hire guys with big spatulas to take care of that” 3) No matter how much time I spent at the cat track this time I never heard “Big Furry Bastard”, a line that is very present with my original CDs. Well, there’s my Grim Observations. Happy 10th GF. Let’s hope the rumors to GF 2 pan out in our lifetime.
Mr_Calavera
An afterthought, this is also the first time I ran the game with the patch. Maybe the game patch is responsible for these changes?
CrisG
You might try on the official Grim forum about those differences....http://www.grimfandango.net/ it is intriguing to think they did indeed make slightly different cuts or editions. I have not heard of that but it has happened with other games. GF remains a masterpiece imho, a remarkable tour de force, with tremendous individuality and a vast world of remarkable whimsy. I am so glad they made it for there are few games with this kind of personal touch and style, and I hope over time there will be more.
urluckyday
I would highly doubt different versions considering the game's only mild commercial success, but I wouldn't doubt patch changing things, however, voice-over work probably doesn't get changed because of that. You could have gotten a different region disc or something...otherwise...I can't explain it.
King Dando
At the DOD site under Easter Eggs this one is listed “When Manny is in the giant cat stable, he will look down at the turds in the litter box. If you try to pick one up, Manny will just laugh and laugh.” Manny doesn’t laugh in mine, he just says “they hire guys with big spatulas to take care of that” I'm pretty sure mine does both. Either it's first one then the other, or it depends on whether I try to look at it, or pick it up. I shall have to try this out. I have no previous save games handy, so I guess it would require me to play up until that point, but since it's Grim's 10th, I was planning on playing through it again anyway
