How do I get a file from TSL to open in 3ds Max. do I need a pluggin or something to open the ascii files I make with mdlops like I do with gmax? any one know?

Well just as with Gmax you need NWmax to import the ASCIIs ( MDLops creates those for you).

Though be mindfull you'll need to download the 3D Max version of NWmax, not the Gmax one or you'll get into trouble.

okay I found it and downloaded it and ran the program and it hasn't done anything that I can tell am I supposed to put this in a specific place?

Time to take you through it as best as I can.

Stuff you need:

KTool

MdlOps

GMax or 3ds Max

and NWmax

Open up KTool, and find the models. Its in BIFs -> models.bif. Open up the Aurora model branch, and pick an mdl file. Click the Extract button, and extract it to any location on your hardrive. Collapse the Aurora Model branch, and open the Aurora Model Extension branch. There, extract the mdx of the same name as your mdl file (ie. if you took blahblah.mdl, take blahblah.mdx) to the same place as your mdl file.

Now, open up MdlOps, make sure KOTOR 2 is selected, click "Select file" and find your mdl file. After that, click Read and Write model. That will create 2 new files with your mdl and mdx. modelname-ascii.mdl and modelname-texture.txt. You don't need the txt file, so, go ahead and delete it.

Now, open up [G]Max, and, when that loads, so will your NWmax. Open up the tab that says "MDL Loading." Click "Import Goems only" and select the file with the -ascii at the end of it. Now, click Import.

And there you go! One model imported to [G]Max.

Okay I have downloaded and installed Nwmax and I have the files I want to mess with. I open uo 3ds max and there is no Nwmax pluggin and no way to import the mdlops ascii files. I don't know what I am doing wrong.

Okay, that means NWmax isn't in the right place.

Check this folder of 3D Max : D:\Program Files\Autodesk\Scripts ( its an example path of my PC).

Normally when you downloaded an extracted NWmax, you should copy the whole lot to the Script folder of 3D Max.

In the script folder you'll also see Start-up, you'll need to put autonwmax.ms file in there. Only then will Max startup with Nwmax loaded.

Else you'll need to start Nwmax in Max, its somewhere under Max Scripts tab, look for Run script.

It should show you a browser window, go look for the nwmax.ms or use the autonwmax.ms mentioned above. hit openen and Nwmax should get started.

Nevermind the V-ray thing, its an extra plugin I use for rendering in Max itself, has nothing to do with Kotor Modding.
