Vertical Blu-Ray player

Hey guys,

Are there currently any Blu-Ray players that you can have set up vertically (on its side) rather than having it sit like a normal player. I have very limited space for my player, and I just want to put it next to the TV standing up to save space. Do you guys know of anything that would suit my needs (and no, I'm not getting a PS3)?

Thanks!

Its a simple fact that the PS3 is now a very reasonably priced high end kit... with BR + DTS-HD Master Audio support. You can turn it into a TiVo... and I think it does games too :D

I dare you to find a slot loading BR player that is cheaper than a PS3 :D Even slot loading laptop BR drives are barely cheaper than a PS3.

You can get external drives for your pc that have a central mounting point/attachment for the tray. The commonly do NOT come with convential BR players.

http://www.blu-ray.com/ for all things BR ;)

I've always worried that "slot loading" disc devices are prone to wear out faster than

other types of drives (flip top, sliding tray) or have greater chances of getting dirty and/or

scratching discs.

Are these concerns unfounded?

Hey Kurgz, long time no see :thmbup1:

Ive dug around and cant find any definitive evidence one way or the other. Sure, slot loaders can get stuck, but so can malfunctioning tray loaders. I had one tray that was a bit bent once and it used to make the god awful whirring noise :p

It comes down to personal preference and budget - slot loaders are usually more expensive

Totally agreed, I'd get my hands on a PS3 in a flash if I had an HD telly...Standalone BR players suck compared to what the PS3 can do!

Yep, lack of 1080p TV is what prevents me from splurging on the PS3. My 1600p monitor doesnt take the PS3, and would probably look crap with it as its nit its native rez... so probably no ps3 for me for a whiles yet ;) No biggie... my pc more than kicks a$$ atm.
