You mean a mod like JA+/MB2/OJP/etc? You'll need to learn the C programming language (Note: Not C++!)

Unfortunately you cannot create players with gmax alone, you need 3d studio max 4 or newer, it stops with version 8 of 3D max.

If you learn the C programming language, I have a small community set up teaching people how to use the JA SDK, but we won't teach you C.

Also, 3DS Max isn't free software.

People don't like to teach C, exactly.

You could pick up a book, or read online at somewhere like http://www.cprogramming.com

Personally, I just spent about a year poking at the SDK because I had no books or internet.
