Xemgoa
At first. Kotor had NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO problem starting and playing it... on wondows 7, however after me bro updated the video drivers it will NOT play at all. I got me a TRUE gaming computer instead of a hospital comp outfitted with gaming...which fried recently... This thing can play alot of my games at max! ...So sadly this comp somehow cant play it. It is unlike the other posts... i double-click it... ... ... ... ... ... and nothing. I bring up task manager and start it again, and i witness the process come up-- but only for a split second and then quit. Something wont let it play. Can i get some assistance? I love this game. It really had no trouble none what-so-ever playing on it...now it wont. Helpies? Oh yes i got this over Steam from Valve
ZimmMaster
If it was working before your brother updated your video drivers, then use the system restore to restore to a point before you updated your drivers.
Xemgoa
Im thinking about it...so far i am going to try a uninstall and re install. ZimmMaster
Could you run the swconfig utility and save the report then post it here. It makes things alot easier. The KotOR games don't even recognize my current drivers, yet I'm still running the games on maxed out settings and still runs smooth as an LCD screen. I am using an nVidia Quadro FX 1500 graphics card with the most up to date drivers on a 64 bit XP Pro operating system.

ZimmMaster
It appears the problem lies in your operating system. As it is the only thing that has a "FAIL" next to it, the rest appear as either "WARNING" or "PASS". I have also checked the system specs and it appears that Windows 9X is not a supported operating system. So in other words, you will not be able to run KOTOR on your current operating system. But since you were able to run it before, I am probably wrong. So all I can suggest is a system restore.
Q
You're going to have to uninstall and then reinstall the game according to the large-print instructions at the top of the second post in this thread. Do everything that it tells you to do, in the order that it tells you to do it and the game should run fine.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that applies for Windows Vista and Windows 7 not Windows 98, right?

The game is recognizing the OS as Win98, which is characteristic of not installing/running it in XP SP2 compatibility mode as an administrator. I missed this, though: Oh yes i got this over Steam from Valve It should be working, then. How about trying this? I downloaded ATI System Tools, created a game profile where I set Direct3d and OpenGL settings to Auto Balanced and it worked like a charm! You could also try running the game's config utility and setting the screen resolution since it isn't showing up in the .ini file.

You are using Windows 7, but the swconfig utility recognizes your operating system as Windows 98! There are hundreds of things that could be going wrong right now. I just hope EvilQ can lay out a good one before I have to start listing them all off.

Q
Try right-clicking on the swkotor.exe file, selecting "properties" and setting the file to run in XP SP2 compatibility mode as an administrator under the "compatibility" tab.
