Shrub91
Ok, so I built my computer, got everything set up, OS, latest ATI drivers, latest DirectX, etc. Installed my games, and I find both KOTORs just crash immediately upon startup. I'm thinking it's a problem with my ATI/AMD drivers. I'm using my motherboard's integrated graphics (HD 4250). Anyone know which Catalyst package works? The program claims that it requires Catalyst 3.8 or later. I have 12.3. what the heck? It also says I need OpenGL. I thought that came with the Catalyst package? So, again, what the heck? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. EDIT: BTW, I just checked CYRI, and I'm well above minimum requirements to run the game.
Dak Drexl
What OS are you running? If it's anything above XP, the games do not work... There are a few steps you have to go through to get them running again. Do a quick forum search for "Vista" or "Windows 7" or something and you should turn up with the right thread. Shrub91
I'm running Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 32-bit The SWinfo.txt file I posted has all my system specs and other stuff. It's the file that swconfig.exe makes when it scans your hardware. Would the KOTOR games run under the Ubuntu OS with Wine? If so, please let me know. Because I just do that, then. Q
You'd be better off just sticking with XP, since the game was made to run on it. Before you go to the trouble of changing your driver version, there's a couple things you should try. First is the Dantooine lag fix: First, figure out where the .ini is installed. Default is "C:\Program Files\Lucasarts\swkotor(2)\swkotor(2).ini". If its not in that location, then your going to have to do some searching around on the hard drive a bit. When you find it, just double-click on the file to open it in Notepad. Scroll down the file until you find the Graphics Options Under the last line ("last line" as in the last line of the list of entries under "Graphics Options", NOT the last line of "swkotor(2).ini"), add "Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1", without the quotes. Goto File, then Save. Second, here are a couple of savegames that were made specifically to get around this issue. BTW, I dunno why it says my drivers are out of date. The program claims that it requires Catalyst 3.8 or later. I have 12.3. what the heck? It also says I need OpenGL. I thought that came with the Catalyst package? So, again, what the heck? KotOR's an old game and can't ID newer video cards and drivers. Those warnings can be safely ignored.
