KnightlyJedi Posted October 16, 2001 Share Posted October 16, 2001 considering a grenadier cost 90 food (a lot for a ground troop) and 40 nova (for a unit that does nothing) it is fairly worthless to invest in grenadiers UNLESS it is if they have only a few (2-4 perhaps) mechs...any other reason is close to pointless, why?? take these stats: grenadier does 25 attack to a strike mech, a strike mech has 80 hitpoints which means you need to hit it 4 times...a strike mech does 15 attack to a grenadier, a grenadier has 45 hitpoints which takes only 3 hits from a strike mech...compare the rates of fire and the minimum range of the grenadiers and youll see why they do not work if you want to destroy strike mechs then create mech destroyers...they cost a lot of food and carbon (100F, 175C) but are worth it if the enemy poses a strike mech threat the biggest problem with grenadiers is they are used only to counter mechs, which they are OK at best...just about every unit in the game counters a grenadier, easily for the price of 90F and 40N a grenadier is far from worth it i believe...stick with a heavy trooper assault backed with your own mechs a final note, to say something positive about these thermal boom booms...mixing a few in with your main army (troopers, mechs, air, whatever) wont hurt they do add an extra punch to your army if you are fighting a few mechs...dont rely on them to be a true counter to them though o yes, they (grenadiers) are suppose to hurt shields...i dont think id count on that either they have a rather puny attack vs anything shielded which again negates their use...if only they had a stronger base attack and did more damage to shields THEN and ONLY then would they be worth considering Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Lord JayVizIon Posted October 16, 2001 Share Posted October 16, 2001 yeah, well put it this way, AA troopers are super effective against air units only, but crappy against everything else. it depends on how you go about the attack. if you are not willing to invest in building air units, then AA's will be good for defense against them. they same could be said of grenadiers if you knew you were coming up against someone who loves mechs. i think they're crappy, but i'm sure someone will have a pretty darn good strategy and implement their strengths, it always happens that way.
