Lechuck13 Posted January 1, 2001 Posted January 1, 2001 I now this topic has sorta been done before, but that didn't include EMI. Now, I think it's fair to re-assess the topic with EMI included. So, without further ado (ado, ado!), rate the four MI games, in your opinion, from best to least-best. ------------------ "That's the second biggest monkey head I've ever seen!" -Guybrush Threepwood
Lechuck13 Posted January 1, 2001 Author Posted January 1, 2001 I'll go first: My list is: 1) The Curse of Monkey Island 2) EScape from Monkey Island 3) The Secret of Monkey Island 4) Monkey Island 2: Lechuck's Revenge ------------------ "That's the second biggest monkey head I've ever seen!" -Guybrush Threepwood

BoneMaster Posted January 1, 2001 Posted January 1, 2001 1. Monkey Island 2 2. The Secret Of Monkey Island 3. The Curse Of Monkey Island 4. Escape From Monkey Island
Rufio Posted January 1, 2001 Posted January 1, 2001 call me old fashioned, but it seems to me that its just like it should be, the order they were released in. ------------------ "i am going to kill you, and you will scream while you die, and then, you will be dead"

Spiffing Blue One Posted January 2, 2001 Posted January 2, 2001 its a draw between the first two: 1) MI1 + MI2 2) CMI 3) EMI ------------------ That's the second biggest monkey head I've ever seen! -- Guybrush

Largo LeGrande Posted January 2, 2001 Posted January 2, 2001 Me list here: 1. MI2 2. MI1 3. CMI 4. EMI I don't mean EMI is bad, but that me list. ------------------ "I'd swear on me grandfather's grave, somethin' weird is goin' on."
Dec Ryan Posted January 3, 2001 Posted January 3, 2001 I haven't played the first two I only recently converted as an adventure gamer by TLJ. Anyway after I finished EMI, I think it's better than CMI, I dunno, maybe it's just because I just finished EMI ------------------ Dec Ryan The Longest Journey Fans Forum End of the Journey "Make like a jellyfish and dry up on the beach!"
Manbrush Fourthtree Posted January 3, 2001 Posted January 3, 2001 1. Monkey Island 2: Lechuck's Revenge 2. Escape from Monkey Island 3. The Curse of Monkey Island 4. The Secret of Monkey Island
Scumm Posted January 3, 2001 Posted January 3, 2001 i think that the curse was the best, but very close to LeChucks revenge. but thats probably because i played it first... 3,2,1,4 ------------------ "Gratuitus acts of sensless violence are MY forte!" -Max
StarEye Posted January 4, 2001 Posted January 4, 2001 1. Monkey Island 2 - LeChuck's Revenge 1. The Secret of Monkey Island 2. Curse of Monkey Island 2. Escape from Monkey Island Personally, I don't think EMI and CMI should be compared to SMI and LCRm because their in 2 different time-periods. SMI and LCR came almost at the same time, with only one of two years between. Curse an Escape doesn't have very big a gap either. I don't thik MONKEY 1 or 2 would sell much if they would be released for the first time today. Of course--- I would buy them ;-) ------------------ If only we had as much graphic adventure games as Star Wars Games!!
Banditboy Posted January 4, 2001 Posted January 4, 2001 The CMI was by far the worset coz of its bad cartoony like graphics. It was worse than mi1 & 2, they ruled!
Scumm Posted January 4, 2001 Posted January 4, 2001 Hey!, i happen to like bad cartoony like graphics. they look cleaner and more detailed than the other stuff from the originals, even emi. ------------------ "Gratuitus acts of sensless violence are MY forte!" -Max
Blondbeard Posted January 5, 2001 Posted January 5, 2001 1.Monkey Island 2:LeChuck's Revenge 2.The Curse Of Monkey Island 3.Escape From Monkey Island 4.The Secret Of Monkey Island ------------------

storken Posted January 6, 2001 Posted January 6, 2001 the only games with class is Monkey 1 & 2, but the others are good too.
Chucky Posted January 13, 2001 Posted January 13, 2001 yeh, well I reckon Escape's the best, not that I've played the first two. are they any good? Jos kiddin'! Seriously though, Ron Gilbert *was* monkey island. MI1 was the first proper PC game I bought, and it blew me away. And the sequel was one of those rare things; a new installment which built on the back of the previous one, and improved the formula. Alarm bells started ringing when the new producers for MI3/4 were interviewed about their style of humour and said "Yeah, we're big fans of 'The Kids in The Hall'." Curse was a huge letdown after the first 2, and with Escape, Lucasarts have just come over all Sierra, commercialised and missing the point: Guybrush and Elaine's 'relationship', his character, the in-jokes.... Oh! It makes me cry. They've really raped the arse of this licence. Either bring back RG, or let MI RIP. Sorry if you like the last2. But it's like having a dead friend dug up and dressed as a bunny girl.
Chucky Posted January 13, 2001 Posted January 13, 2001 And another thing......... Quality control has gone waaaaaaay downhill in these games. Have you seen the 1.1 patch? It's not just for glitches, but on a lot of machines you actually need to download it to complete certain puzzles! And even that hasn't fixed my crash - I'm waiting for L/arts Tech support to get back to me, as it crashes during the chess game. moan, moan, moan.
MtBlanc Posted January 15, 2001 Posted January 15, 2001 I agree with you wholeheartedly Chucky, but what is wrong with the humor of "The Kids in the Hall"? Do you just think it wouldn't apply to MI or it just isn't funny. I'll agree with you that a lot of the humor of Kids is physical, but I think a lot of it would work good in a game like MI. They use a lot of irony and they are very good at poking fun at pop culture. I think they took the worst of Kids and put it in the games, not the best. ------------------
