I'll start working on the Forum logo, buttons and that little link button (you know, the small button jk2.net had a contest about and we all fergot to vote for the winner)

I was actually thinking about the forum logo today and what should it include? I was thinking we'd have the official GB logo and have "OFFICIAL FORUMS" and "brought to you by GalacticBattles.com" underneath. Not sure what everyone else thinks.

Swoosh. What is the name of that font you used in that newest logo? I'll start ahead with the logo. And the OFFICIAL FORUM is a good idea.

I'd just like to give my thumbs up for vBulletin. I've seen it used in a few places (eg. <a href=http://www.arcanity.com/forums>here</a> & <a href=http://aoforums.funcom.com/>here</a>) and it really is a damn good system.

Does anybody know what colour will be the background of the forum? black like this? the grey from the layout? or white? I need to know for the logo I am currently making with the design specs Swoosh said.

Given the current design, I think that white would be the best forum background.

#1:

I wasn't quite sure how to add the brought to your by..." part. It looks ackward.

 

#2:

I removed the brought to you by part and added a trooper.

 

Tell me when you think. What I should remove, what I should add, what I should change and etc.

 

I know some on you would like a plain logo like this forum. So that's why I made different versions.

I'm hoping we can actually get away with including the header/menu graphic on all of the pages. If that isn't possible I think we should include a brought to you by message somewhere in the logo. Logo 2 looks great Jackal.

Yeah. I saw the other sites. You can just make the template point to the normal file every other .html file points to. However, I'm not sure if the java will work. Because the UT forum (hosted by GameSpy)'s template isn't "working". The flash seems to be disabled. But it could as well be on purprose.

I put up the latest beta of the main page here. We're gonna try to center the whole structure (I say "try" because it is currently messing up the drop-down menus). Also, the menus on the left need to be changed/modified. The "new on gb.com" will be gone since it is kinda redundant with "headlines" at the current time. Maybe it can come back when files and strategies are coming out so we don't have to clog the news or something. Anyways, give me some ideas! Here's what I think should be there...

Progress/What still needs to be done

 

Well amazingly enough we are actually on <a href="http://www.jediknightii.net/gb_beta/GalacticBattlePlans.htm">schedule</a>! Way to go guys.

 

Site Design

Swoosh is close to finishing the design, check it out <a href="http://www.jediknightii.net/gb_beta/betaindex1.html">here</a>. We are encountering a <a href="http://www.jediknightii.net/gb_beta/problem.html">problem</a> (your res must be over 800x600 to see this) with centering the menus, if any of you are Flash experts or know someone who is please help us out. The only other thing that we need is a smaller header graphic for each page’s title (like JKII.net’s). After that, I can quickly convert everything over to SSI and have the content up in a couple of hours.

 

Forum Design

Jackal, could you clean up those buttons a bit? They look a tad blurry; remember we can customize anything so if you need to make the buttons slightly larger to fit the title go for it. As for the header graphic, technically we can include whatever we want, I’m just not sure if LEC will want our header/menu on the official board. We’ll have to ask them about that. Jackal, in case LEC doesn’t want our header up there please finish work on the forum header. Other than that we are going to need some miscellaneous graphics (Message Icons, topics, threads, ect), unless everyone thinks we should use JKII.net’s. I’ve found a site that has plenty of <a href="http://indigo.ie/~owenc/gifgallery.html">Star Wars smilies</a>, and with vBulletin it is a synch to add them. Check out a sample of vBulletin’s <a href="http://www.vbulletin.com/admindemo/admin/">admin control panel</a> (user name/password:admin/admin), I added a Boba Fett smile there.

 

CGI

All the scripts are ready to go up, we just need Don to add the site to the JKII.net sever.

While we are talking about finalizing menus has anyone though about what the forum menu should be? I’m thinking we go with basically the same threads as JKII.net’s forums with maybe a couple of more editing areas, someone help me come up with better names.

 

Any ideas?

Well it looks like someone played a bit too much with that admin panel, oh well. It’ll be functioning again in a day or so when they clear the board.

 

The graphics look great guys. There are just a few final touches we need:

 

- Graphics for the community menu section (One for the forum and one for the chat room), like TeamXbox.com.

- Page Header graphic, that will allow us to just use text (similar to JKII.net)

- Colors for links and headers

- A small arrow or some such thing for the news headlines

- Finally, we need to make the menu/header titles actual links.

 

Besides that, we still need to figure out how to center things, but that doesn’t really matter in making templates so I should have all of the content and the SSI done by tomorrow night. If you know anyone who can help us with the centering please send them my or Swoosh’s way.

Sounds great. I'll get to work on the community images as well as the page title ones. Oh yeah, and I'll fire out an arrow. That should be easy enough. I have some good ideas for the community logos so look forward to those. =)

I’m going to try to post all of the content and the templates tonight, but it might have to wait until tomorrow. We still need two things: a page header and a better introduction. If anyone can write the intro please post it here on this thread. I’m also talking to someone who can help us get the design working properly centered. The coding is rather complicated, so we might just stick to the left justification. I’ll keep everyone updated.

 

Don: Please move the domain as soon as possible. We really can’t get any CGI/Server stuff done until you get the FTP up.

Actually Swoosh, I was talking about the Information: Introduction section, but your into will be helpful. =) Anyways I’ve posted all of the pages with content and SSI, although most of it is just “coming soon” messages. I’m still playing around with styles, if anyone has any suggestions let me know.
