SlowbieOne
I just finished reading Timoty Zahn's Heir to the Empire(awesome book). I noticed this takes place 5 years after the Battle of Endor. I also noticed Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight takes place 1 year after the Battle of Endor. So my question is where the heck did Jedi Knight take place? In a completley different realm? Or is it just a clumsy inconsistentsy with the Star Wars story? Nobody knew of Rahn(from JK)? Not Yoda? Not Ben? Throughout Heir to the Empire, Luke states many times there are no more Jedi(besides the Jorus C'baoth clone). According to the timeline, Kyle would be a Jedi of about 4 years by now. How come Luke didn't know of him? Where was Kyle at this time? Are these questions that have yet to be answered? I have more questions, but 1 thing at a time. I hope I didn't confuse people, and I hope someone understands me.
Zorro
It might help if you read the Jedi Knight short story. It is an actual book that goes a bit more in depth than the game, although I think it's based on the game.
SlowbieOne
I plan on it, but I have doubts it will be any different than the game.
ed_silvergun
The Dark Forces series does throw up some fairly major inconsistencies within the Star Wars universe. Starting in Dark Forces when you kill Boba Fett!
CaptainRAVE
After the Thrawn trilogy Luke realises that there were indeed other jedi that hid themselves as Yoda did. He says that Ben and Yoda could have destroyed the Emporer, but they just wanted to be left alone. It was a long explanation though (in the Black Fleet Crisis Trilogy first book). SlowbieOne
Would you recommend the Black Fleet Crisis trilogy? How about the Jedi Academy Trilogy? I heard books other than ones written by Zahn are weak. What are some suggestions?
ed_silvergun
You can give The Truce at Bakura a miss. It's entertaining enough, but not a patch on the Zahn stuff. I'm working my way through a lot of the EU literature at the moment.
acdcfanbill
well, i didnt care much for the black fleet crises, the authors views on jedi just disagree with me too much, but not a bad read, especially if you want the info...
Guest Rogue15
The Bounty Hunter Wars are good book. I just finished 'Slave Ship'. i wanna get the next book in the series!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SlowbieOne
I don't think the bounty hunter books would interest me much, unless they had a lot to do with Luke, Han, etc. And also I figured by the reviews Black Fleet Crisis was lame. CaptainRAVE
The Black Fleet Crisis isnt too bad, but Lukes quest is real boring. The Zahn books are the best, and the Jedi academy trilogy are a definate read for anyone.
Denise
Definite read? Oh heck no... personally I would advise you to swing well clear of any of Kevin J. Anderson's garbage, particularly the Jedi Academy series. Unless of course you also want to pick up I, Jedi and watch Stackpole write rings around Anderson's ineptitude within his own settings, anyway... But then, that's just my opinion. That, obviously, varies.
SlowbieOne
From what a lot of people told me, most of the novels are crap. Obviously not Zahn's though. I plan on reading the rest of the Thrawn Trilogy and The Hand of Thrawn Dualogy. I'll probably just read outlines of the rest since they seem boring... The Jedi Apprentice series seems to be to my liking too. Any input?
Darien
According to the jedi knight story, Mon Mothma knew Rahn, and Luke had heard of him. Kyle meets Luke just after he gets 180's head. Mon Mothma, Leia, Han, and Luke met to discuss Kyle's mission and it was decided that Jan should follow Kyle and make sure he isnt tempted to the dark side (Mon Mothma never trusted Kyle.) Luke went to check up on Kyle
Guest Kurgan
Well I can't say I've read Zahn's latest book cycle, but his first SW trilogy had many of the same weaknesses that later EU novels did, so the only credit I can really give him is he did it first, so he couldn't have been blamed as much. Later novels repeat the same scenarios and stuff so it becomes even more cliche. But it's definately entertaining, I'm just saying it's not the greatest sci fi ever.
