TheRogue 3000
I wasn't aware that the King James was the worse translation. Out of curiousity, what is the better translation?

If you knew anything about Catholic and Christian Mythology, you'd see the brilliance of that flick. My guess is: None of you have read your Bibles...unless you've read the "King James" version, which is heralded as the worst translation (actually, re-write) ever attempted. Scottish "Queen Jimmy" changed so much about that book it's shameful. I suggest that you read a real Bible. Being Catholic myself, I avoid the King James version like the plague. And I understand perfectly what is supposed to be funny about Dogma, it just fails to actually make it funny for me due to some minor errors in regards to the religion, but mostly due to the crude nature of most of the humor and the pointlessness of a great deal of it in the second half. But in any case, as long as you're talking about the Bible in regards to Christ's divinity, you are way, way off. The Gospels are absolutely full of passages where Christ references his divinity or praises others who do. He never once denies being the Messiah. I find it hard to believe you could derive any other understanding from ANY Bible.
Admiral Odin
Further more, If I remeber correctly, Jesus didn't denie it, he didn't answer.
TheRogue 3000
I seem to recall that Jesus commended Peter when he said Jesus was the Son o' God. Also I could be misreading the text, but during Jesus' trial it didn't seem to me he was denying his divinity. Just making Pilate draw his own conclusions. Or something. JR2000Z
Jesus never sad that he was not God. Jesus also never said that He was God. If he did, the Romans would be after them faster than Lucifer melting an ice cream cone in hell. He used parables and miracles to show it and most of the public who saw this believed in Him. Peter betrayed Jesus by saying that Jesus wasnt the Son of God 3 times. 2. Pilate, believe it or not, actually believed that Jesus was the Son of God. He just did what the people wanted. And indeed Peter was praised for seeing that Christ was the Messiah. Consider Matthew 16:13-19: When Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" And they said, "Some say John the Baptist, but others Elijah, and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." Guest Conor
I suggest you read that section of the Bible again. I see nothing remotely resembling a denial in Jesus' response to Pilate. "Are you the King of the Jews?" "You have said so" That is agreement. Not denial. As for anyone immediately scared away because this topic has actually introduced something involving dreaded religion (Oh God No!), just relax. We are just quoting text. Guest Conor
As for Dogma, some of it was truly amusing. I was genuinely suprised I had never heard of the Metatron before, being a rather important angelic figure in Judaism. It was a little too dumb for me, and the little jabs Smith kept making at Catholicism got irritating. I'm sure they amused him greatly. I wouldn't mind so much but some people actually give weight to the nonsense he includes. I've had a friend insist there probably was a black disciple that was covered up due to racism. It is my least favorite of Kevin Smith's movies. Chasing Amy is my favorite. J&B Strike Back had some really funny moments, particularly Mark Hamil's bit.
