JollyRoger Posted December 22, 2001 Posted December 22, 2001 does anyone know of a program to make a text adventure? i dont have a life, and i think that would be cool to do
Meksilon Posted December 22, 2001 Posted December 22, 2001 QBASIC is out-dated. Try QuickBASIC. =mek=
Trapezoid Posted December 22, 2001 Posted December 22, 2001 No, just use tiny lasers and inscibe the game into the hard drive. Actually, visit http://www.ambrosine.com/resource.html , there's several great text adventure engines there.

Snootch Posted December 22, 2001 Posted December 22, 2001 Isn't qbasic and quickbasic the same thing? anyway, you can make good text adventure with qbasic (quickbasic), and there is a program that converts .bas files to exe (can't remember it, i have it on a cd somewhere). Turbo Pascal is pretty simple and good too. I used to make text adventures with qbasic when i had 286. looong time ago.
Snootch Posted December 22, 2001 Posted December 22, 2001 I found this program: http://www.os2games.com/files/RADF100.ZIP It's supposed to be a text adventure developer which is easier to use than qbasic. I have never tried it so i can't really say if it's any good.
Meksilon Posted December 22, 2001 Posted December 22, 2001 Isn't qbasic and quickbasic the same thing? No, QuickBASIC suceeded QBASIC. anyway, you can make good text adventure with qbasic (quickbasic), and there is a program that converts .bas files to exe (can't remember it, i have it on a cd somewhere). Yeah, I have that program - it's called QuickBASIC. =mek=
Snootch Posted December 22, 2001 Posted December 22, 2001 can you convert .bas files to .exe with quickbasic?
raVen_image Posted December 22, 2001 Posted December 22, 2001 Helpful info: http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Park/4504/qbasic_faq.html
Snootch Posted December 22, 2001 Posted December 22, 2001 and i thought that i knew much about qbasic programming.
dark spirit Posted December 22, 2001 Posted December 22, 2001 don't do text adventures they're outdated! go to http://www.clickteam.com and download a program to make proper games!
Snootch Posted December 22, 2001 Posted December 22, 2001 AGS (Adventure Game Studio) is the best amateur adventure game developer. In my opinion.
scabb Posted December 22, 2001 Posted December 22, 2001 ADRIFT is a text adventure game maker that is pretty simple to use.
scabb Posted December 22, 2001 Posted December 22, 2001 Originally posted by dark spirit don't do text adventures they're outdated! go to http://www.clickteam.com and download a program to make proper games! This engine SUX. Most games Ive played on this suck, like that Guybrush Power Melee game, god, who made that? whoever it is deserves the gas chamber...
Trapezoid Posted December 23, 2001 Posted December 23, 2001 You need to be VERY experienced to make a stable adventure engine in a Clickteam product... It's really designed for more action oriented genres. AGS is great for adventures, but I still think you should do a text adventure. They're fun and easy to make (with the right tool), and good if you want to make an early draft version of a graphic adventure.
1.21 Jigawatts? Posted December 23, 2001 Posted December 23, 2001 I've gotta try some of these out. I've suddenly got lots of free time on my hands.
Gabez Posted December 23, 2001 Posted December 23, 2001 Scabb: yeah, that was Monkey-_'s doing . And you can make cool games using TGF - like Scurvy's That Night Before, for instance.
JollyRoger Posted December 24, 2001 Author Posted December 24, 2001 Whoa, thanks a lot. i think id rather do a text adventurem like trapezoid said, i think it would be easier, and i cant draw.
