matt--
This doesn't exactly have to do with jk2 editting, but id Software has made Quake2's source code available under the GPL. If anyone is interested in making a home-grown game, here is the engine to use...it's not the latest, but its free! ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/source/quake2.zip
Captain-Olm
Hm! It will be a good training if i try to make a game out of the q2 engine, for a mod for JK2........ for all who wants to dl: The engine is not realy difficult
UniKorn
I think it would be better if you downloaded the Q3 or the EF sdk and try to create a mod. After all, Raven will not release the enitre q3 code
Wilhuf
Id Software has released the source code for the final version of Quake II, version 3.21 (which oddly enough, isn't available as a compiled game). Thanks Blue
nykel007
Thanks Wilhuf, I liked Q2 better than Q3 cause it wasn't that much blood. Now I have something to prepare me for JK2.

Wilhuf
Yes you will need a c++ editor and a compiler to produce executables from this source code.

digl
ummm not to bring your hopes down, but if you are new to editing I dont think a game source code is the place to begin
nykel007
So then where to start?
digl
I dont know Im not much into editing What do you want to do? If you are good with graphics/modeling you could try doing models/skins Or if you have Q3 or a Q3 based game you could start learning how to use Radiant You need to know how to program in c++ to mess around with the Q2 engine
nykel007
Well since I'm doing a Programming coarse in school and have a keen intrest in making games to me this is a good place to start. My most intrest is graphics.
Wilhuf
Raven's Kenn Hoekstra wrote another article on 'So You Want to be a Game Designer?' This article, part II, 'The Structure of a Game Company and Where You Fit In', has some good general overview tips on how to get into the biz. Nykel, Kenn's listed some links that may show you some good starting points.
