Replaying the Series

Oh ya, can't save mid level.....Whee. When I got halfway through the first level and my screen flashed green and shocked me because I had forgotten it did that when you were hit....then I decided I needed to play it on medium (except for the sewers...UGH. And maybe the Arc Hammer. That is the name of the ship isn't it?)

I had almost forgotten that you could change difficulty setting for each level... cool feature that you don't see too often. Those were the days, my friend! :) BTW, have you heard that some guy tried to make advanced version of Dark Forces using new 3D engine? Check out his site. Too bad it's not have been updated for a long time... :(

Call me lame...

::pause::

... but I never stop playing a SW game of some sort. From JK to Xwing Alliance to Tie Fighter SE with enhanced graphics to Dark Forces (when it will run [curse you Windows ME]). I'm always in the mood, baby.

And then sometimes I have to stop. I take a moment, sit down, wipe my eyes and cry out for a moment to break the monotony of staring at a computer.

That's when I sit down and roleplay Star Wars.

Yours geekly,

The Mighty Pants.

Geez, nf sabers on SP?!?!? Wow. Let me guess, it's on hard and you take out that tie bomber on top of the citadel or whatever it's called too right?

The hardest thing I've done is taking out a Kell Dragon with my fists (did i spell that right?). Although I want to try the rancor. Force speed is your savior there :).

heh....I never even finished JK for some reason. I mean, I've played the beginning levels all the time. The farthest I ever got was the level that had you doing something with pumps. Level 8 or 9 or so.

You didn't go past level 9?!? :freakout:

That means you missed out on using half the force powers! The game just gets better and better as you near the end. You should really try to finish it...no, really...

I, personally, like the earlier levels better, with the possible exception of the Nar Shadda levels. Although the Valley of the Jedi gets pretty interesting.

Hey, don't get me wrong. Most of the levels throughout the game are very good, and I actually prefer some of the earlier levels too (particularly Baron's Hed and the Dark Palace). I was really referring to the progression through force powers...and all of the duels with the other Dark Jedi, and the choice between Light and Dark. :)

You actually posted while I was writing, so I wasn't really responding to you. Although I still hold to my opinion. I was never a big force user in JK SP. STUPID STUPID!!!! I'll change that when I get there. That reminds me.

Progress update, for those of you who care.

After finding the metal supposedly used to sheild the Dark Troopers, Jan did a bit of research to find where it was available. There weren't many places that it was, but one of them had an imperial mining facility on it, so we decided it would be a good idea to take it out.

Jan sent me in armed with a sequencer charge to place in the one spot it would do any good, the main reactor. For some reason I anticipated an icy world (:)) but was presented instead with an almost desert like world. Not that I saw much of the surface. After gaining access to the imperial facility my entire mission was underground. The red sandstone was still prevalent, but there was no more of the loose sand that made it so desert-like.

Getting to the reactor was obscenely hard. It seemed that even an imperial with all the access cards would not be able to get there except by many leaps of faith and by navigating stange pistons that seemed to be created for the sole purpose of crushing ME. Strange. Anyway, there was one elevator up from the reactor that an imperial may have been able to use, but the building that it was in was elevated enough that a ladder of some such would need to be used to get there.

The aforementioned "leaps of faith" were the most serious obsticle I encountered. A good many I missed and dropped to the floor below. That hurt more often than not. After one such failed jump I lost conciousness and came to again earlier in the complex, feeling much better and with partially regenerated shields. Also strange.

I finally managed to access the reactor, but before I set the charge I scouted the surrounding territory. It seemed the perfect place for a picturesque 1 on 1 duel. I grew more wary by the moment. After having discovered no exit and several turrets in the tunnels I resigned myself to danger and set the charge, hoping it would open a passage of sorts.

It surprised me less than it should have when part of the reactor sank down and released a robot of sorts, probably a Dark Trooper. However, it was not armed as it might have been. It merely had a sword and a blaster deflecting shield. after dispatching it with a barrage of blaster bolts (until i noticed that it wasnt firing back, it was blocking) and a well placed thermal detonator, the elevator i mentioned before opened up and I hightailed it out of there.

I'm currently en route to an imperial detention center where Crix Madine is beign held.

TIE Bomber? Nah. Not that I haven't tried, but as it turns out, it is indestructible. :(

I have beat JK on hard in just about every way possible, and just when I thought I had done everything short of every level with fist only (which I started, but it was BORING) I remembered that I hadn't done NF sabers with no saving. I am currently on level 13, and have only had to replay two of the levels since I started. Let me tell you, fighting the great invisible Pic without Force Seeing is a bit of a challenge, but as is obvious in my sig, I easily overcame him without dieing once. Boo Yah! :D

I am truly glad. It is something that few can claim they have done. Of course, few have tried, it's so rediculous :). Actually, don't you do a fist only Kell in DF?

BAH! That's just a little DF Kell. It's graphics are worse :D

Quick edit: Actually the truly hard Kells are the ones in the Jedi Temple in the dark. Try those only fists no light :):). If you can do that i'll be almost as impressed as the nf pic.

To those who read this under LadyJedi's name, it was me. My sister had forgotten to log off, and I accidentally posted under her name. GRRR

Yeah, I discovered that the hard way that the Kells jump the one time I played all the way through DF.

Personally, I thought that JK was far better in terms of level design, gameplay, and graphics (duh) but, DF does certainly have it on creepy levels. Most of them are soooo dark (another duh), and the crappy graphics make it even more so, since nothing is clear. Then, the way those phase one dark troopers just pop in out of nowhere looking like - as one person put it - "a dessicated corpse" making all those funky sounds as they relentlessly march toward you. Seriously, the first time I found one, I literally said "what the hell!" and just laid into it with my blaster rifle. I of course thought it was shooting back because at the time I had no idea that they deflected blasters. Eventually, it did die, but I was out of power for my blaster on one of the worst levels to be out of power on. I did finish it though, and haven't worked up the resolve to try the game again.

Maybe after I finish JK this time, although, I haven't been gaming much since I have been reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy for the first time. I have to admit that Tolkein is a good author, and the story is pretty inventive, but what I think is lacking is that he never developes the battle scenes. I suppose that I got spoiled after reading all of Michael A. Stackpole's books where in addition to incredible character and story developement, you can visualize the entire battle as you read it, and it just draws you in to the action, to where the story seems real. Tolkien is definately more interested in delving into the colors of trees and their leaves, and writing songs rather than explaining what a character looks like, or what is happening when the battles start. Even so, it is still pretty good, but nowhere near Stackpole quality.

I'm actually thinking about replaying the Arc Hammer on a harder difficulty (played it on easy). The final boss was kind of disapointing after hearing one of my friends say how impossible it was. :D

It's cool that you're reading LotR. Did you start with The Hobbit? It reads much easier, since he made it to entertain his kids.

Yeah, I read the Hobbit first. It was a bit mediocre, but I'm glad I read it before I started the trilogy. The best part of it was probably the riddle game with Golum and Bilbo. That, I think is where the book went from readable to okay, and sort of held steady after that. The one thing that bothers me about Tolkein is how many songs he throws in there. They are just a distraction when the message could have been clearer and sometimes more moving in regular words.
