Will lightsabers block blaster bolts while swinging?

I don't want the lightsaber to be an all-powerful weapon, but I want it so that you could play through the entire game without using another weapon even a single time. Force powers and lightsabers should be enough for a jedi. You know, just for the fun of it.

I think in one of the first previews of JK2, Raven said you could complete the game only with the lightsaber, but it would be much more difficult.

Kinda hard when you don't get the lightsaber right off the bat!

Before this game came out I would always think "[insert game name here] is fun and all, but it would be better if it had [insert feature]". JKII has all those features! It's so wonderful! I'm going to go join Gamebooger in the bathroom.:wstupid:

Really i'd like to hear some thoughts on this. Other than those 3 blocking animations in JK, how many more do you think they'll add? and i also assume Raven'll make the transition animations smoother, as opposed to the really non-existent transitions from JK.

Yeh Renzo, smoother is a definite. Just recently it was announced that all 8 moves and 2 special moves for each stance would be able to transition smoothly into any other move, ending up with...was it 3100 different attacks or something? Anyway...The smoothness of the attacks would probably mean that blocking animations would be smoother too.

I'm sorry. I just looked it up. It was 3500 frames of lightsaber animation, with 300 total different moves (including combos).

What is cool about that to me is that you can actually choose where you are going to hit. Oh! his left side's open! I will swing at it! You couldn't really do that in JK. In JK you would have to angle Kyle if you wanted to swing at a specific spot. Very un-jedilike IMHO.

(SPOILERS)

About Obi-Wan fighting Jango Fett:

1. Obi-Wan doesn't lose, as such

2. Jango Fett fights using the following tactics:

a. Using double blasters to try and overwhelm Obi-Wan's capacity to block

b. Using warheads- which Obi-Wan seems to dodge easily

c. Using his jetpack for mobility

d. Doing ANYTHING to seperate Obi-Wan from his sabre. While he has it he is unbeatable.

Jango is obviously the coolest killer we will ever see, but he finds it almost IMPOSSIBLE to fight a Jedi, and it is a huge testament to his abilities that he makes a worthy opponent.

Of course, Raven can't make thre sabre TOO good or the game is no fun.

I'm with you Dazilla, I'm looking forward to the saber more than anything else. But considering that is pretty much what the game is based around (according to our previews). At least, it is taking a lot more critical role in this game. Well, it looks like the devs are looking forward to it too. That's why I think this game is going to be awesome. Everyone wanted lightsabers, the devs wanted lightsabers, the devs are awesome, so therefore...:D

As for the first few levels without a lightsaber...well I will have no problem with going through learning the stealth controls for a few levels. I was never all that good with guns, so hopefully we will be able to sneak around in the first few levels without too much confrontation. Otherwise I think I might have a problem...

Here is a short passage from IGN preview that might encourage you:

But good news awaits, because you'll have collected 3/4 of the weapons in the game by the end of the second level which means you'll have plenty of toys to play with.

So, if these first levels do require sneaking around, you might get Stun Baton quite early...

The lightsaber's blocking ability depends on you to, right, since there is polygon to polygon collision detection.

As for beating the game...

If the game has a high replay value, which for me isn't hard to accomplish, I'll go through the game at least 3 times first using guns & lightsaber when i feel fit then using the lightsaber as often as posible finally using the lightsaber as least as possible.

See for me it isn't so much about beating the game as it is about playing it. That's why I have no problem taking as much time as I need to finish the game RIGHT. That way I won't have to say, man! I wish I had done THAT on level six instead of THIS. I will be able to take the time to contemplate and end up with THAT the first time. I much rather enjoy playing it the first time than replaying it.
