DF revisited

Hmmm... i was bored and all this talk of JK and DF made me want to get out my old DF and give it a play... so i did.

Annoying thing i had totally forgotten:

You can't remap the keys... arrgh!!! at least not without a hex editor. what were they thinking.

Thing that wasn't as annoying as i expected:

Being unable to save games... i thought this would be horrible... but it actually works really well... you have just enough lives to get you through a level, but it makes you worry about dying for once. the respawn points seem sensibly placed (especially before big jumps) and if you are getting frustrated you can lower the difficulty on the level.. but having that "medium" icon on the levels list bugs you enough to make you go back and finish it on hard later.

Best level so far:

The burnt out town after an imperial attack level... cool atmosphere (especially considering the lack of polys to work for). burnt skeletons everywhere.... heh heh.

Best thing about it:

the total chaos of blaster fire, bolts everywhere, loads of enemies.

Thing that was missing from jk and the jko trailer:

the cool explosion noises blaster bolts cause when they hit the walls.... loads of bass compared to the high pitched firing noises.... add it now!!

Yeah, I think all those old levels in Dark Forces are classic. My favorite levels are the Executor level, the ice planet level (sorry I have forgotten some of the names of these levels because it has been ages since I've played these missions), the Coruscant level was pretty wild too. I think I loved EVERY level on this game.

Not to mention the great custom add on levels people have made for Dark Forces, there are some great levels out there for d/load.

Dark Forces is probly one the best games I've played, there are better games out there, but none that I've enjoyed as much as Dark Forces. Playing it reminds me of the things in JK that didn't quite stack up. Hopefully JO will incorporate the Missing Parts from Dark Forces, IE cool looking weapons (done), the atmosphere of levels, blowing up lots of stuff, crazy enemies (Dark Troopers, okay there were Jedi in JK but i liked the Dark Troopers), and a more Star Wars like feel (the Rail Detenator felt out of place).

Eh? Just use the same setup program you've already used to install the game!

from windows:

cd\ ---> cd\dark ---> setup

Configure Controller Setup

Configure Keyboard

Any keys you want, have at it.
