Ihatetheblind Posted February 21, 2002 Posted February 21, 2002 Anyone know? I've got a voodoo 3 (100 fps on pac man) and I think with outcast it may finally be time to upgrade. Anyone heard good things about a particular card with QTF? I was thinking geforce 2 or raideon 8500. A geforce is good no matter what, but the raideon is pretty cheap and benchmarks pretty close to the geforce 4!!(+ or - 7 fps). By the way I am looking to save money, that means I cant buy a geforce 4 w/ 2 terabytes of ddr.
OnlyOneCanoli Posted February 21, 2002 Posted February 21, 2002 GeForce 3 Ti200. $140 or so. What's a ballpark estimate of your budget? BTW, we have a few threads in the Swamp on this type of thing. Here and here and here.
Qel Posted February 21, 2002 Posted February 21, 2002 Geforce4 Ti 4600 or Geforce4 Ti 4400 or the cheapest Geforce4 Ti 4200... Geforce4 Ti 4200 is only $199 and its due out in April. Qel
SaberPro Posted February 21, 2002 Posted February 21, 2002 That's right! Get GeForce 4 if you can! Although you probably can't tell the difference between GF3 and GF4...
Chanke4252 Posted February 21, 2002 Posted February 21, 2002 I just got a Visiontek Geforce3 Ti200 and I am extremely happy with it. I can run ghost recon at 1600x1200 with no video lag or any other defects, no slow graphics nothing. Im not sure what the FPS is though i havent checked. But its a very very good card for what it costs. I got mine for 120 from bestbuy.com, but it had a rebate and was originally like 180 or something. But its still extremely good for the price.
Zx2 Posted February 21, 2002 Posted February 21, 2002 ihatetheblind i would wait a month or so if i were u, wait until the geforce4 becomes mainstream then u'll be able to buy a geforce3 dirt cheap thats what i plan to do @ least
Lt. Durden Posted February 21, 2002 Posted February 21, 2002 As far as 3dMark2001 goes, the Radeon 8500 is the king of the hill right now, and u can get one for 158 bux. I'd say go with that. Better image quality than the GeForce lines. Or just wait for a GeForce 4. If you're on a budget, the Radeon 8500 is the way to go.
Bio Warrior Posted February 21, 2002 Posted February 21, 2002 you must be nuts! ATI aint as good as Nvidia
OnlyOneCanoli Posted February 21, 2002 Posted February 21, 2002 Sure. Unfortunately moderators have lives.

Qel Posted February 21, 2002 Posted February 21, 2002 Check the benchmarks and tell me if theres a difference between Geforce3 and Geforce4... Geforce4 benchmarks are a lot higher that geforce3...read more about it...there is alot of difference even the antialiasing has a changed form "Quincunx" to "Accuview AA". Check it out here- http://gamespot.com/gshw/stories/flat/0,12880,2845978,00.html Qel
psycoglass Posted February 21, 2002 Posted February 21, 2002 The GeForce 4 is much faster than the GeForce3 Ti 500 or the Radeon 8500.Especially while Anti-Aliasing on.
GUNNER Posted February 21, 2002 Posted February 21, 2002 I will probably just go with a GF3 Ti200, why spend all the money when in 6 months there will be a GF5. My Geforce2 GTS will already get me 100FPS at 1024 in CS. Will I notice 120FPS? I doubt it
