Kyle and the Darkside

Just curious, but seeing how aggressive Kyle was (or rather, WE were) in Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, and the three missions in MotS... it seems that Kyle would be destined to be a dark jedi wouldn't it? It seemed to be a huge mistake for someone like Kyle to pick up a saber and learn the ways of the force, especially a person that was more likely to pick up a concussion rifle and take out a squad of stormtroopers than to just try to find some kind of 'stealth' way of going around the troops. I mean look at the guys arsenal, the guy had a rail detenator, concussion rifle, thermal detenators, mines... and now has a disruptor at his disposal. The disruptor seems more like a dark sided weapon in the hands of a force user, and I don't care if it IS in self defense. It would be pretty un-jedi-like to waste troops with such weapons wouldn't it? I mean a disruptor is more than just your run of the mill blaster, I believe the New Republic has banned the weapon. Concussion rifles would seem pretty aggressive too... atleast for a Jedi. Yeah I know it's just a game, but I am thinking of Kyle as a rogue jedi more than anything... and even though it contradicts George Lucas, perhaps Kyle is in the 'grey' area of being a jedi?

Of course I'll have fun using the disruptors and such... But the light side of the force is peaceful, and Kyle's attitude is kill em all...which I like that attitude just fine BTW.

As far as i can see, standard troops like Stormtroops fear Jedis, and also seem to almost respect and obey dark jedi.....but what kyle seems to be is ruthless...Dark jedi don't go round killing no on for nothing, kyle is a mass murdering psychopath!!! Kyle is the kind of Dark jedi that everyone would fear and everyone would try to kill for the good of the world....hell, jan must really love him!! lol Suprised he aint killed her yet!

The Dark Side applies only to the force and Kyle's attitude when using it. It has nothing to do with his weapons. If Kyle rips someone to shreds in a meat grinder, he's not overstepping the bounds of the force because he is not using it.

Guns in general ARE "un-jedi-like", were they how small/big, weak/powerful enough. That's why playing only with lightsaber and Force powers is most closest being full Jedi Knight(at least at the end and when enabled cheat codes). It may be overally too difficult, but like Qui-Gon said: "It's hard life." What comes to disruptor, I guess we get to pick it up only after we have visited Nar Shaddaa.

Dark jedi don't go round killing no on for nothing, kyle is a mass murdering psychopath!!!

Reading comments of my fellow forumgoers, I have feeling that WE as gamers have tendency to be mass murdering psychopaths(just because we can do practically whatever we want in FPS games), not Kyle as he's depicted in the stories. You have to remember, Kyle used to be and still is a mercenary, so it asks a lot from him to commit his life to Jedi knighthood. Just as NRI agent said in older report, "he continues to exhibit a run-and-gun attitude and ask questions with his blaster", so Dark Side does tempt him, because he can't handle it yet(even though he thought so in JK & MotS), but every sign seems to indicate that he's meant to become fully trained Jedi Knight after so many fails. Maybe by the time JKIII comes out he will finally wear some kind of more traditional Jedi outfit as well. ;)

I think Kyle is just confused due to his homosexual tendencies.

No, man! He always have Jan to keep him straight... I'm sorry, this discussion is going to wrong way, if we start to wonder, is Kyle gay or not; besides I think we are above it in here Valley. Like I already said in here, "you should never mix Star Wars and sex, because nothing good comes out of it!"

Now too get back on topic here, I think that Kyle isn't a completly light or dark side jedi, he's a rogue jedi that doesn't really follow the jedi code and stuff and uses both sides of the force and he doesn't always use his saber, he uses guns too. So to me Kyle is a rogue jedi, different from all other jedi, and thats what makes him cool.

i think that a "grey" jedi is just a jedi on his way to the darkside

you cant mix light and dark its one or the other ultimately

thats why i think the decision to give Kyle dark and light powers in JO better be ironed out with some sort of storyline where he decides to follow Lukes teachings in the last few levels and gives up his dark powers,

or alternatively sticks to the dark and kills that whiny skywalker gimp

otherwise its pretty damn lame, compromising the generally accepted star wars universes rules for enchanced gameplay

Oh the oppurtunities for a good SP mod here!!! It hasn't even been released and I'm lamenting the lack of SDK for SP that will allow us to add an RPG element to the game so that you can become light or dark depending on your actions and decisions.

Having said that, a lot of people bemoan the lack of this choice but I don't remember seeing many mods or series of user created levels for JK that really used this to good effect! Maybe it's just too complex.

But if you we could develop a branching story line in JO so that you could be faced with the option to "join me and together we will rule the galaxy/destroy the Sith/bake a really good cake! [delete as applicable]" and do so. A little like DX did, but more so.
