Jyt-Pon Dai'el
In anticipation of JK2 being released, I've spent several hundred dollars upgrading my PC to make it run as perfectly as possible. I've been in the process of doing this for the past month-and-a-half or so, and I've just finished it off about ten minutes ago with the purchace of a SoundBlaster Audigy Platinum! :D Anyway, the reason I'm posting this thread is to let all of you JK2 forum go-ers know how you can get a good deal on the Audigy line of Sound Cards at Buy.com. Check it out here . I've found similar prices to this on MySimon.com, but Buy.com is having a special on shipping: it's free for orders over $99 & under 20lb This is good for the Platinum versions by themselves, but if you want to take advantage of the shipping deal for the X-Gamer or MP3+, you'll have to buy some more stuff to bring the total up to $99. I hope this helps.
Chanke4252
I dont notice a difference between one card and another. Am I right to think that it doesnt really matter unless you have a 5+ speaker surround sound system? I have a subwoofer and 2 speakers and I dont notice a difference between stereo and surround other than things running a little slower. I have a Soundblaster Live! You may want to check out the description/stats at Creative's Audigy site. It's got a TON of new features and enhancements over the SB Live! series. One thing that may be of particular interest to you is how they've improved the simulated surround sound for two speaker setups. I haven't heard it myself, but it's supposed to be alot better than the Live! version (which I thought was pretty good when I had my setup like that). Of course, it doesn't come close to having and actual surround-sound system, which has dead-on environmental positioning with the Audigy (another big improvement). Well, I'm starting to sound like a salesman, so I'll shut up.
Chanke4252
Ok, thanks for the info, still doesnt seem like a big difference from the LIVE! cards though other than a few bells and whistles that arent really utilized yet. Im kind of comparing it to video cards and how the GeForce3 cards have the NFinity engine which allows shadows to be cast on the characters. Its a nice feature but its not very noticeable, and I dont think its worth upgrading your card just because of a feature or two. Thats just my opinion, but of course I do like to get all I can out of my hardware before I upgrade it (that is as long as the piece of hardware im using works well and like its supposed to). I dont mean that I use my hardware untill its completely obsolete, I just use it untill it begins to not live up to the requirements of some programs. I like to be able to run anything I can get my hands on.
Ham Yoyo
Last month I bought a Sound Blaster PCI 512 for $29. I now have 4 speakers and can hear different effects coming out the back speakers.
