I have to say, I think we all deserved a damned candy bar for having what seems like the first-ever online warez conversation that didn't go down in flames (pun intended).

And welcome to the forums, Superfly. Hope to see you in multiplayer. I can't wait for my copy to arrive...

Your scenario is a crime. MP or not, copies can only *legally* be made for archival purposes. Only to be used in the event your original is destroyed. Please do not act like a hard-nose do-gooder and then contradict yourself in the same sentance.

This goes back to an earlier post of mine on the matter about how people get up-in-arms about one aspect of piracy and seem to forget that they are guilty as well. [/b]

Done then. I won't make any copies, period. I'm sorry if my comments offened you. I come off the way some times. Thank yo very much for your opinion. I will keep my promise, no copies. Oh, and just so you know. I've never made any copies of any games previous, just to keep my record clean, that's why I asked.

Guys... I have to confess. I've warezed before. At least with Abandonware, etc. I've repented, though. I'm TOTALLY sorry for what I've done, and I feel like a total sleeze. Now, this is off-topic, sort of, but I need to confess that to my fellow JK community members.

Well this thread WAS staying civil. Bullseye I suggest that you do some research before you try and explain just what warez do to the prices of software. They do in fact drive up prices and not only that they often lead to other activities such as CD key generators which can often cause a person to buy a game where the CD key has already been used. As for downloading warez you are right about that one. I have no right to do anything "illegal" to stop them. I think this is beyond the point though since this type of thing is illegal and if caught that person will be punished just like anyone else that breaks the law. If you don't like that then feel free to talk to your local congressman and let him know how you feel about the law. I don't think that it will make a difference but you never know. Maybe you will set a precedent.

As for a warezer being worried about me kicking their ass, they have nothing to worry about there since I don't need to get myself into trouble right before I go back into the military! Thanks for your point of view.

A few days ago, someone who lives in my residence hall (who knows that I work in the LucasArts fan community) asked if I had played JKII yet. When I said "no", he said "OK, I won't spoil it for you", clearly rubbing it in my face that he hadn't paid for the game. I was so mad, and I couldn't think of anything to say except to call him a "f---ing packet kiddie". He had no idea what a packet kiddie was, so at least I got some satisfaction out of that. Warez is an awful truth, and there's not much you can do, except for bringing back those lame copy protection code wheels. ;)

OK here's my $.02 worth.

I am replying in reference to the claims that Warez is driving up the cost of software. We'll stay with Games as the reference point as Application software can get very very expensive, but when i comes to business applications that may or may not justify the price hike.

I really don't think it has driven the price of games up at all. For as long as I can remember games have been $40-$50 when 1st released. Nintendo, Sega, SNES, PS, PS2, DC, PC..etc.....

The availability of broadband didn't hit until a few years ago...the internet wasn't as widely used back then either. So why weren't the games cheaper back then? Why are they not MORE expensive now? Where is this price increase that everyone is referring to. I am neither for nor against Warez. It's your choice. You probably weren't going to buy it anyway (for the most part) if you decide to download it. But I was enjoying the debate (as with any and EVERY new game release the Warez debate is always fun to read though the same justifications and responses haven't changed). While reading it hit me....prices haven't risen on games in forever. They are still in the same range. Same reason a Cheeseburger is +/- $1 that's what the average price that consumers will pay for the product. Regardless if it's the Evil burger flipper that decided to munch on an extra Burger every now and then or not =).

Kinda funny when you think about it. People get so up in arms that the reason their game is so expensive is because of all the warez'ers when, if you think about it, THEY'VE ALWAYS BEEN THAT EXPENSIVE!!!! heheheee

All I gotta say is: If my friend hadn't given me a copy of DF3: JK... I would've never bought JK2.

and those who thing that a police officer could give 2 ****s about software piracy... get real.

and it's a moot point after the official release, but why wait? If you had anything better to do before the official release, then you probably ought to have something better to do after. I, for one, have nothing better to do (actually I do, but my priorities are just a little out of whack), and odds are anyone here with more than five posts per day has little else better to do. If it's there for the taking, why wait, especially if you own a legal copy that is not currently in your possession?

To quote the great Orbb: "Less talking. More shooting."

I was rather pissed by the first twelve levels of JKII because it was almost entirely mazes and strategy and hardly any fighting. I admit, though, that the saber battles to come probably made it all worth the boring agony, but come on, if I want a strategy game, I'll play chess.

So what do some people have against instant gratification? That has always puzzled me.

Yep. Here come de hammer!

I know this great warez site. They masquerade it as a legitimate business. They call it by many names like "Best Buy" and "Electronics Boutique" and others.

Just go in, grab a copy of JKII and then go to the counter and give them your money. Don't worry, its all part of the warez scam.

They will mail your money back to you PLUS INTEREST. It really works. Just try it!

HAHA Lets all stick it to the big corporations! Just make sure to watch your mailbox for your check!
