massadoobie
i was walking down the street heading to class when i had a sudden realization... Jedi Knight 1 NEEDS to be remade using the JK2 (q3) engine... i'm not sure if anyone's started on this or anything, but think about it... there are some damned good level makers for jk1 who could figure out how to recreate jk1's levels using the much-easier-to-use _Radiant (whenever it comes out)... almost every model from jk1 is already in jk2 (except 8t88 and the dark jedi i believe)... and just imagine using jk2's lightsaber in jk1... jk1 is pretty archaic and it's painful to go back and play it knowing how cool the jk2 lightsaber is so anyway, if anyone's interested or agrees with me, respond... i have ZERO experience editing, but i could and would learn just to make this happen. hell, i just want to play level 9 from jk1 in the q3 engine with the new saber... but that's just me. questions/comments/snide remarks? (and yes i realize the SDK needs to come out first)
monkey jedi
If you could do that you would be my god. But alas, I have no experence either. Which one is level 9? Is it the fuel station. If it is I am in 100% agreement with you, that level ROCKS!
Delmar
This is a great idea. What I'd also like to see is a conversion of all the JK1 classic MP maps like Bespin and Canyon Oasis. Too bad I have no skill to lend in this area.
Guest T16skyhopp
ive always wanted a dark forces remake with the JK engine. mabey it could be done in JO. i at least wanted to se all the original weapons remade, and the dark trooper itself... UniKorn
If you ever decide to do this, make sure you have all legal issues covered with Lucasarts before you start.
Delmar
What legal issues? As long as it isn't sold for profit, LEC has no grounds. If legal issues were a concern, most mods would never come to fruition I would think.
Miracleasd
LEC may very well have legal issues. whether it is done for profit or not is irrelevant. the levels and characters are intelectual property and while the reproduction of individual levels and characters would not cause a problem, combining it all into a jk1 clone may very well meet with a cease and desist order. im no expert tho so the best thing you can do is ask the offical team and hopefully get their blessing. good luck. SpliffCartel
IMO you might as well just play the original with Saber Battle X 3.1, its very cool.
Edward_Zeth
i had this idea a while ago and when i posted it here everyone called me a dumbass.

NerfYoda
All I need is a remake of Canyon Oasis & I'll be a mappy man.
GRIMLOCK
the Q3A engine can't handle the HUGE levels of JK1 they'd hafta be broken down as for legal issues if not mistaken as long as ALL mod content is fan made it should be okay, I.E. no cheating by porting maps but in the greedy terms of that butt-hole Lucas (sorry guys, but i hate him, his goons ruined MANY good Quake modders and mappers, and i got this game cause i enjoy every bit of Raven Soft.'s titles they just that good!) as long as its for his companies game its probably okay, but if you were doing it for some other game he'd sick a dozen Lawyers on you as he's done with the Quake modders behind the Q2 StarWars mods/maps
Av8tor
are you crazy? the levels in JK1 are half the size of the levels in JK2. I would think you could remake the levels fairly problem free. It would take a lot of time to get the details ported properly but I think you could do it.
GRIMLOCK
crazy no do i know my games yes JK1 maps were HUGE compared to JK2 maps heck they were big agianst most any games maps JK1 had LOTS of outside action JK2... mostly inside and going up not out like JK1 did oh, and i read someplace the same thing i stated above u could probably remake an entire JK1 map in JK2 but the game would lag like nothing before, and thats if it doesn't crash first ever play Quake2 with a 64 player map? lagsville man, lagsville. heh Q3A is no differant in the matter the bigger the map means the more brushes to be drawn, the more brushes to be drawn the more systme resources are eaten. with JK2 just playing the norm in it is alot on a system
[PoB]ArMAgeDDoN
You could always just break the larger levels down.

Smoof
You couldn't port ANYTHING. You'd have to redo all the models and lvls and everything. If you made your own, then it would be legal and legit. I recall a mod quite some time ago for Quake2 called Generations. Was the best mod I ever played. It was Deathmatch but you could be either BJ from Wolfenstein, Doom Guy, Quake guy or Quake 2 guy. Each with their own weapons from the games. Well the team ripped the models and maps from Quake and ID took legal action, saying that they would have to make their own models and maps if they wanted to keep the mod going. Needless to say they got shut-down. But as far as I know if you make your own models and maps everything would be legit and they couldn't do anything. I'm with Grimlock on hating Lucas as well. Raven did a great job on this game I agree but Lucas sucks. Talk about a capitilist money grubbing pig.
Morkath
they can take legal issues even if you create everything from scratch, by being starwars based they have rights too it. Dont believe me? Check out what happened to bidforpower, a dragonball z based mod, was forced to remove ALL dbz content and it became a generic anime mod. So make sure you get permission first
