The Adventurer
I'm currently playing Grand Inquisitor for the first time and have to say this is one of the best non-lucasarts graphic adventures I've ever played. Great Graphics, humor, and flow....the voice acting is top noch...and HO DAMN It Stars Dirk "STARBUCK" Benedict (reason enough to love this game right there...) With a little thought I begain to realise that the Graphical Zorks all kick ass(text adventures just never grabed me for somereason... a pity because I hear nothing but good things about them...) Return to Zork, Zork Nemesis and Zork Grand Inquisitor are all on my top 10 best adventures of all time(along with Blade Runner and The Neverhood as non-Lucasarts adventures) Zork Nemesis, although not a humurs Zork like all the rest, is what the Myst games should have been and its story is so ingrossing you'll lose your self. The graphics are top notch and the atmosphear realy draws you in. It's also one of the few games I beat compleatly with out a walk through (Grim Fandango and Blade Runner are the only other two...) Return to Zork was a realy early attemp to use full motion video in computer games(maybe the first, I think I read that somewhere...) and had its moments. But you could die and get stuck realy easily, however it was a great game in its own special way with memerable charicters (Rebeca Snoot and Boos Miller) and locations (flood control damn 3). Its interesting to point out that Return to Zork takes place a REALY long time AFTER ZGI and ZN and I found it cool to be prequeal of sorts..... Also I think I may name my game development group the IT&L Corp(Illuminite, Transluminite and Leisure Corperation) after the company in the game.... So what are your takes on the zork games? Wossname
I never really liked first person adventure games (And that includes text adventures). I prefer a hero to identify with.

If you haven't already, you could go to this site and legitimately download the original commercial Zorks. I say 'commercial' because Zork started life on a mainframe at MIT in the late '70s. The creators went on to found Infocom and the first thing the did was publish a revised version of Zork (as three games because the original was too big for one double-density floppy to hold). A lot of people credit Sierra with making adventure games successful. While that's true for the middle period (early graphic adventures), Infocom was responsible for making adventures successful in the first place by transfering Zork from the academy to the marketplace. Unfortunately, Infocom made a critical mistake in the late '80s by sinking a huge amount of captial in trying to branch out into productivity software. The effort bombed horribly. They were acquired by Activision and disbanded. They were just making the move into graphic adventures. It would have been interesting to have had Infocom and Sierra competing for the same market. Ender
IIRC, it was actually the Tex Murphy games that had FMV first in an adventure.. and who doesn't love Tex
