JediSith999
STICKY THIS, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. As you all know when we visit the lucas forums, ads pop up. Of course, but did you all know the ads that pop up containt SPYWARE? Yes its true. The double click ad (not sure which one) implements a cookie in your profiles folder, and it is SPYWARE. Yes I didnt beleive it either. To get rid of it go to http://www.Lavasoftusa.com and download Ad Aware. Make sure its the newest version. And Yes I checked, I detected it and deleted it, then, I went back and scanned AFTER an ad from double click popped up. And it found spyware. The name of the file is doubleclick[1].txt and its Spy Ware. Just thought I would let you all know RIGHT away. So watch out everyone, maybe those sites we downright trust, well, maybe they arn't so trustworthy. (Not talking about you JediKnight2.net Im saying about what we think are 'harmless ads') Alright just wanted to let the JK2.net community know. Sorry for the bad news. Irimi-Ai
It's definitely possible. I use the latest version of Opera, which has a built in pop-up refusal option, so I don't get any pop-ups, and I don't have to run a separate program or anything. I can switch that option on or off on-the-fly, too, so it works really well for me. Anyway, the doubleclick spyware in pop-ups is widely known to be spyware and to insert it's malicious cookie into your browser/computer. I would suggest using the LavaSoft thing, using a pop-up blocker program (as others have said), or better yet, use Opera with that functionality built-in! Ok, I'm getting off my Opera soapbox. NoodlyGod
I use Mozilla, theres a built in option to disable popups. If you use it, go to: Edit-> Preferences-> Advanced-> Scripts and windows Uncheck "Open unrequested windows" And voila, no more popups.

Craggeh
If MSIE had an option to disable popups ala Opera and MoZilla the bottom that fell out of net advertising would fall even further.

(Not talking about you JediKnight2.net Im saying about what we think are 'harmless ads') Alright just wanted to let the JK2.net community know. Sorry for the bad news. Of course they do, the companies that doi banner/pop-up ads ALWAYS have used spyware. They want to know what your insterests are so they can sell your E-mail address to those types of companies. This is nothing new. I though everyone would have listed ad.doubleclick.com ads.x10.com in thier restricted sites by now. If you don;t know what I am talking about in IE 5.5+ [possible earlier versions] go into tools, Internet options, security tab, click on the red circle with the while - in it, and then click the sites button, add and sites you want to prevent from leving anythihng oin your computer. The two companies above are the most COMMON banner/pop-up ad carriers, all that will happen is you will NOT see the ads, unless web servers change something with requiring you see the ads. Guest Forceflow
Pop Ups, Ads, Spy Ware... *sigh* The interent just keeps getting worse. Of course I can understand the need for advertisement, but it' just getting really bad now! Of course lucasforums wont do anything against that, they need the funds from that. Well, my firewall blocks about 95% of all pop-ups and most of the ads overall and Cookies are deleted once I log off.

Razage
I have to wonder, are ad companies really really smart, or just really really stupid. I would have to go with the latter. If anyone cares for a reason on this, please let me know =)
Darth Maniac
Its not Spy Ware as most of you seem to think of spyware. It doesn't install a program running in the background draining resources and stuff. That is not to say that it doesn't spy on you but I just thought I would point out the difference. Adaware (A program that finds spyware on your machine) does class these cookies as spyware for various reasons (The privacy policy of doubleclick has been criticised in the past). Unlike most spyware these cookies are simple to delete and, if you have Internet Explorer 6 or above you can use it to block cookies like this. - Darth Maniac
