Mr Tim
Saw some of the most appalling behaviour in a FFA game yesterday. Playing on a sabre only server (that also limits force powers to jump, sabre throw, seeing, and apparently team heal - it's pretty much perfect for sabre purists). Anyway, here's the gripe: 1. Killing/slashing people who have sabres down who are obviously trying to duel, etc. A couple of times myself and a couple of others were on the pad in ffa_bespin with sabres down watching/playing some quite good duels. One guy attacked a couple of people with sabres down, which they complained about. Turned out he was a new guy, hadn't ever played before, really didn't know what he was doing and so asked for help as well - asked lots of Qs actually. This was fine though - he was forgiven. Game went on. But other people still attacked people with sabres down. Most of the time I don't mind - I just move or fight back - but when you're standing alone, in front of someone else, sabres down, obviously about to duel - well, it's quite annoying. Also, by this time several comments had been made about sabres down = peace, which most people seemed to agree with. Some people even learnt the 'code', which was nice. Now, before I go on - I know not everyone ascribes to the sabres down = peace, but if someone is obviously trying to initiate a duel - they're standing there facing off against each other, sabres down in an area where only duelling was going on, then it makes sense to leave them alone. Well, most people think so anyway. Next was the death star map. This is where I really got annoyed. Same new guy asking questions. Myself (and others, I believe) trying to help. I end up standing in a corner of the big hall part, up on a ledge and putting sabre down so I can answer Qs and help this guy. Got attacked roughly every 20 seconds though. Pretty annoying really. Seems to be the kind of behaviour that makes you question why anyone would bother to help out anyone new to the game. 2. The most downright, Machiavellian, mean-spirited low blow I've ever seen. Standing with sabre down. Someone challenges me to a duel. Before I can accept another duel has been started, so we can't duel. Still standing with sabre down, haven't moved. Before I realise it, person who challenged me moves in and slashes me. I'm down to 10 health. I was quite speechless. I couldn't think of anything to say I was so surprised, shocked and angered. Naturally I died soon after and soon after that quit the server. I'd had a good day overall, but that last bit left a really bad taste in my mouth. Anyway, without wanting to start more conversations on codes of ethics etc - in most FFA servers I can understand the attitude of kill everyone you can, but in a sabre only server with limited force powers where most people play really nice, some people need to learn a bit of respect and decency. TheMadDoofer
That would really piss me off if I were you. I would kick that person out so fast that he wouldn't have time to blink.

CaptainRAVE
Multiplayers too boring...they need to make it more like single player.
princessliar
they need to make it more like single player You mean with objectives and stuff? Now that could be very cool - like single player but with smarter and more unpredictable enemies. Well most of them would be smarter, I could be the exception that proves the rule. Eternity
Single Player light-saber combat w/ missions. Oh, and if you are trying to say something, wait until you die, and then don't reswawn until you've gotten it out. Come on, guys.
DeTRiTiC-iQ
I've had some serious problems with the Saber Down == Peace rule. I've had people just standing still with their saber down, so I continue past them. Then they 'suddenly' wake up, grip me and throw me off the edge. People are using this rule as a way to catch people unawares, and its damned annoying.

Mr Tim
There's some fair enough comments there about problems with my arguments, which are, in fact, no surprise (i.e. they represent both sides of the ongoing debate about nice play online). A couple of quick responses though: Originally posted by princessliar I know the feeling. I've been resisting the tempation to step back and throw my full complement of thermal dets at them, and next thing I know their saber has taken up residence between my ears. However, the difference was that nothing like this had been happening and that people were playing nice. In addition, for the first part I was describing, I (and others) wee out of the way and people would have had to go out of their way to find and attack us. Separately, about Free For All being free for all: I don't know that the concept of a game where it's 'every man for himself' means that this has to be done without any sense of decency and respect. I don't think the point of this game is simply to come out first on your server at the end of a game, although I'm not saying don't try to. I say this because even people who come out first will sometimes afterwards say 'crap game' or whatever if they didn't like it. Even the whole concept that some people say 'gg' at the end of a game implies that people are out there for a good game, i.e. not just for the most kills. Why else do we play computer games and spend these hours in a made-up, non-existent, 'virtual' world if not for some release, a fantasy if you will - basically for fun. Now, some people might think that the most fun thing in the world is spoiling the fun for others and I admit there's nothing I can do about that, except that I do feel sorry for those people. Reminds me of schoolyard bullies actually.
[FTN]Topper
1 duel at a time sux, I hate having to wait for someone else to finish their duel before ours can begin. I don't know why Raven only allows 1 duel at a time. Having someone who's really cool that uses lightning on you while you're waiting is pissing me off.
