GreyJedi
In order: 1. Deus Ex - perfect immersion. You actually feel you have choices in what you do. 2. Thief 2 - great concept and varied levels made for fantastic gameplay. The world also felt real. 3. Rainbow 6: Rogue Spear - great "realistic" shooter. The music was amazing and very cinematic. 4. Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight - had a real "movie" feel to it. Story was great, level design was wonderful, and it did not feel linear (although it was). 5. Jedi Knight 2 - inferior level design, but better saber and force implementation than JK1. 6. No One Lives Forever - in my mind, a bit overrated. Great writing, voice acting, and camera work, but way too linear. Felt like one hallway after another. No illusion that you had choices, or that it was a real world. On the other hand, the levels were varied, so you were never bored.
Amorpheus
Originally posted by D.L. I have System Shock 2 but it never really grabbed me. Sure it's more or less the same as Deus Ex, my #1 choice. It would be my #1 if it had DX' multiple solutions for problems. As it is, SS2 is one hell of a game. The atmosphere is still unmatched, and I don't expect id to surpass it with Doom 3, despite the killer graphics it will have. Nothing better than looking for some chemicals on a deck you cleaned out an hour ago and run around a corner - into an enemy. Lord_FinnSon
These are not in any particular order, but they all deserve to be mentioned: Jedi Knight II Alien vs Predator 2 Clive Barker's Undying No One Lives Forever Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force Deus EX Unreal Jedi Knight(+ MotS) Outlaws Dark Forces(now only if LEC posted a new patch with DirectX support and allowed free mouse look, we could still play it in Windows)
fragumon
This would be more relevant if you split it into multiplayer and single player categories. But for single player my list is: 1. Quake 2. Unreal 3. Halflife 4. Return to Castle Wolfenstein 5. Deus Ex 6. Elite Force 7. Ghost Recon 8. Medal of Honor 9. Rogue Spear 10 Red Faction You'll notice, there are no star Wars games on my list, including JK2. None of them have really appealed to me including the latest installment. cqdemal
The best 10, not in any particular order. JK2 - Just lightsaber action alone is more than enough for it to make the list! Medal of Honor: Allied Assault - I've never played older MOH games before, so I don't know if this one's the best in the series. It's the single most atmospheric FPS available. The SP game is the best one ever created, IMO. Deus Ex - The story, the freedom, the RPG elements. Can't wait for the sequel... System Shock 2 - This one's really disturbing. Scariest game I've ever played. One of the hardest, too! Clive Barker's Undying - Don't you just love the level design? Half-Life - The Big Daddy. 'Nuff said. Duke Nukem 3D - Coolest protagonist ever. Most innovative game of its time. Serious Sam: The First Encounter - Never thought a budget game could do this. Serious Sam: The Second Encounter - And I said Sam would be a one-hit wonder. How stupid of me... That's nine. I don't really like tactical shooters. So, the last one will be my beloved third-person shooter. MAX PAYNE !!

The whole mouse-look thing is a pain, though ... once you get out of 2-D arrow key stuff and into WASD-land, it is hard to go back ... BCanr2d2
Hey, Pvt Dancer, the main bug bear with XP and DOS games is that there is no soundcard support. YOu need to look on the net for things like VDM Sound, which helps XP deal with sound in DOS, and there are others out there as well.

Pvt_Dancer
Booted up System Shock 2 last night. Looks like we'll have a New Entry Sweet! You like it better second time around, eh, DL? I find this is true for me with a lot of games. Specially old console games. Something will bring it up and I will think, "Man, I didn't like that game." But the more I think about it, the more it will appeal to me. BCanr2d2, I see. Well, I don't run XP. DO you think I would still have trouble with the sound in SS1 should I be able to lay my hands on it?
Anox Kleevah
I must say Shock2 is one of the greatest games ever created! However i never made the end...i came to the part where i had to escape the big ship in that small shuttle!
Shadow_Drone
1. Half-Life (after all this time, the game has NEVER left my hard disk, and I dont think it will any time soon, This has got to be one of the greatest games of all time) 2. JKII (BEST.STAR.WARS.GAME.EVAR, The single was a mixed bag for me, but the good outwayed the bad, and multiplayer has got me hooked, I cant stop, and no, im not just saying this because im on the JKII board) 3. Serious Sam: The First Encounter (I love this game, and the engine is something incredible, especially coming from a small-time dev in Croatia) 4. Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force (BEST.STAR.TREK.GAME.EVAR, im serious about this one too, I love star trek, I lvoe fps games, and Raven brought them together in such an incredible way, its only been topped by JKII as Raven's top game) 5. Quake (What can I say, it's Quake, I just have too many great memories and such to not put this in here somewhere) 6. Doom/DoomII (got me started on FPSes, I also have many memories of playing this for long long hours) 7. System Shock 2 (Just for the atmosphere alone, this game scared the **** out of me, its a shame I did not get anywhere in it, as im sure it just gets better and better, but I could not find my around that ship, wandered for what seemed like hours getting nowhere, but I digress) 8. Goldeneye (Best shooter on any console, this game has seen alot of play time from me and my friends) 9. Quake 2 (the mods for this game are nearly as fun as Half-Life's, which caused it to remain on my hard drive even a while after the release of Q3) 10. Quake 3 Arena (it seems this is a solid engine, as some very nice mods have been released for it, and some great games have been made from it)
