Vader my have been Evil at the time, but its not like he had no decency. he didn't have any thing against chewie, but why would he care if chewie killed a stormie or two? he has plenty more. plus i'd be pretty pissed if my best mate just got frozen.

So Darth Vader says 'Awww, poor Chewie, his buddy is gonna get hurt!! I better let him get his anger out so we can discuss it like adults.' :p (not trying to be rude, just trying to prove a point).

Also acdc, Chastan may have posted some interesting things elsewhere, but he enjoys spamming rude remarks on threads I post to (since he's my roomate).

I figure he stopped Fett, because Fett was being impulsive. If he started shooting, there was a good chance a firefight could erupt. Besides, that's one less prisoner for him to use as a bargaining chip/torture information out of.

Plus, he didn't want that Wookie Mattress he was going to make singed.

Then again, it could be that Vader wants to put Fett in his place. He knows that Chewie isn't going to do much damage, but Fett is acting on his own, and Vader is in charge, so he decides who gets killed when, not Fett. Could just be an ego thing.

Thats the conclusion I reached too, its all about the Dark Lords pride.

It's been a while since I've seen the movies, but I know which bit you're all talking about. Maybe the scene would make more sense if you added dialog to that particular bit where Vader stops Fett...

Boba: Heh, looks like you're boys are in trouble. want me to get this one?

Vader: No, we have things under control. Your assistance is not required.

Wouldn't fit into the brevity of the scene, but basically the gist of what was going down. Just a matter of pride as said before by several ppl.

Or... Is liquid carbonite explosive?
Now that makes sense, I mean all the other explanations make sense...but vader really knocks it out of the way, none of them really mesh with his being in such a hurry to stop Fett from shooting..now if his interest was instopping Fett from blowing his prisoners to kingdom come...

I dont think he wanted holes in it :)

Sorry for spoiling the fun, but why argue? Tis just things lucas missed...

Thats part of the point...it isn't something Lucas missed, its something he specifically put into the movie, or at least something Kershner. When someone makes a movie they chose their shots very carefully. That shot was put in for a specific purpose, and I've been trying to figure out what was going on in the Director/Writer's head.

i have a couple thoughts on this

lucas put it in to show vader has not totally turned over to the darkside, foreshadowing the events in rotj

perhaps since vader and fett were on the opposite side of the carbon chamber, vader was afraid that fett would kill han, and in doing that cutting out the first half hour of rotj and again shows vader isn't totally evil

wouldn't vader kill chewie if he really wanted to?

okay the second one isn't good, but i really think that lucas was trying to foreshadow that vader isn't totally evil. also i think 3po was with chewie on the request of lando, since lando seemed to have access to the prison.

I honestly think it's because the Empire uses Wookies for slaves. As said before, A wookie can definitely withstand almost 4 blaster shots...and be subdued before then. As a punishment, he would be put into slavery more so. Anakin/Vader, having a life of Slavery on Tatooine, I suppose Vader is not that evil to put him through the same misery. So, he let Fett not start a firefight. A lot of it doesn't make sense, but my two cents why he didn't allow Chewie to suffer any incidents that would lead to consequences. Although the other explanations make it good altogether
