My warez copy of the game .. blah blah blah ... :ball:

What is this gaming welfare? Hey great way to kill a game, contribute to low sales reports, and prevent us from ever getting any sort of patches and support. Buy the [insert heavy cursing here] game!!!

My system crashes, the game slows down and locks-up. :ball:

Check your drivers, hardware (IRQ) conflicts, get rid of Win 98 / replace with XP- tweak your BIOS settings to be more stable - i.e turn off AGP 4X, FastWrites, BIOS shadowing, etc, stop overlocking your video card - add more cooling to your system - don't overcool the system (creating air pressure).

Follow the advice from Raven themselves:

http://www2.ravensoft.com/jedioutcast/faq.htm

Ditch the Voodoo card, and if you use Nvidia, use the 27.42 drivers:

http://www.geforcezone.com/drivers.htm

If you have a Radeon - well, we all make mistakes - get a Nvidia card for compatibility.

If you bought an MX version of any Nvidia card - "What were you thinking?!?!?" Would you buy a car with half a useable gas tank or some of the pistons not working, just to save a few extra bucks? Get rid of it and buy a real (non-MX) video card.

If you bought cheap memory, most likely the ratings on it are a lie. Set it to CAS 3 and lower the speed on it.

What kinda sound card - on-board sound from your m/b?

Sound is a major bottleneck in your computer's peformance.

Get a real sound card - SB Live or Audigy, if you get anything else you're asking for problems.

If you can get an Audigy - get one - it's a huge performer over other sound cards, even the Live! You 'will' notice an FPS increase and better 3D sound.

Snap, crackle, pop, that's my sound card! :ball:

As always, drivers, conflicts, and if you own a VIA chipset:

http://www.viahardware.com/686bfaq.shtm

May need to upgrade your BIOS.

Everything slows down when accessing the cd-rom! :ball:

Check that DMA is enabled - but don't enable it on your cd-writer.

Another tip - for those who BOUGHT the game:

Daemon Tools and CloneCD:

Use Clone-CD (with the correct settings for maximum copy efficiency, 2x read, read subchannels, fast error correction, etc.) to create images and Daemon Tools to read the image files.

1. Get the latest version of Daemon Tools:

Click on the following link:

http://www.daemon-tools.com/

Daemon Tools allows you to mount and read cd-rom images off your hard drive.

2. Get the latest version of Clone CD:

http://www.elby.org/CloneCD/english/

This will save you from a lot of trouble if a cd drive is having issues reading the game's cd, because the hard drive won't have that issue - and making images is a very careful process which should get the data to the HD correctly.

This advice is only to meant help you if you have problems with the cd-rom player reading off the game disc, don't like to mess with cd's, or want to use images in order to preserve the life of the originals (because cd-rom players do tend to scratch up cd's a little over time).

It'll save a lot of people headaches without having to attempt to crack the game (with a no-cd crack) each time a new patch comes out - in order to avoid hassling with the cd-rom player issues each time.

Not only will this solve most of the read error issues, cinematics in games (those that use the cd-rom for movies) will never be choppy due to issues with the cd-player - as long as the hard drive that contains the cd-rom image is kept properly defragged.

The graphics are really slow and choppy at times! :ball:

As mentioned before, drivers, conflicts, etc.

Important things to know about the Quake 3 engine:

Lower your resolution - I recommend 800x600 or 640x480 if you have a low end graphics card (and fast CPU) or just want a higher FPS.

Keep in mind though - if you run at 640x480 or lower you are basically bypassing the video card's GPU and using your CPU - hence the reason CPU benchmarks are always done at 640x480 or lower. You must determine for yourself if it's better to let the CPU do most of the work or the video card - GF3 and higher, video card for sure.

16 bit color is much faster and hardly much different.

Note: I have been told this is not always the case with the Kyro 2 - which runs at the same or better at 32 bit - especially since the Kyro 2 won't run at 16 color anyhow. But for all other cards - Nvidia and ATI, the 16 bit boost holds true.

For proof check out these benchmarks:

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1435&p=17

And:

http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/01q3/010814/radeon8500-15.html

An in-depth article on 16 vs. 32 bit, with screenshots:

http://www.tweak3d.net/articles/16vs32/

Lower geometry and resolution:

Resolution - well obviously, less to draw - you can always in increase your FOV - cg_fov - in console - though if you are using a lightsaber it'll be 3rd person anyhow.

Geometry - adjusts the curvature of shapes - and this is a very big performance hit - you can even put this to lowest without much of a noticeable visual difference, though the performance gain is great.

Turn off AntiAliasing, the only card that can do it decently is a Geforce 4 (non-MX). If you don't have one, set your card to manual and shut it off. You won't notice that the buildings have smoother edges when you are killing people in MP and fighting stormtroopers in SP.

Texture bits has no effect - leave it at 32 bit.

Texture detail can greatly effect cards with slow (such as SDR memory) or low memory.

Simple to no shadows are better. Complex shadows will cause a major CPU hit.

Be sure to go here for more hints and tips on performance:

http://www.techspot.com/tweaks/jedioutcast/index.shtml

I'm getting lots of lag in the game. :ball:

Do you have a connection slower than DSL or cable? If so, play single player until you get a real connection - 56K is the stone age.

If you are still having problems, be sure to adjust your settings at least once - attempt to join a server from within the game.

Still having problems? Shift ~ and type rate 10000 - that's 4 zeros.

Still having problems? http://www.dslreports.com/stest - check your connection, it probably sucks.

The game is too hard! :ball:

Get some skill.

Here are some guides that have great information - I recommend reading each one:

http://www.jediknightii.net/strategy_mpsaber.shtml

http://www.jediknightii.net/strategy_mpsaber2.shtml

http://www.jediknightii.net/strategy_acrobatics.shtml

I can't beat people who are in heavy stance. :ball:

Get some skill - learn some moves, learn to kick and roll, use saber throw, force push and pull, buy the game and read the manual, etc.

Also, read this thread for more info on Heavy Stance and the next upcoming patch:

http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49580

I don't like weapons with force and sabers! :ball:

Play on saber and force only servers - learn to use ASE:

http://www.udpsoft.com/eye/

Some of the force powers are too much. :ball:

Learn to use counter forces for light (absorb) and dark (drain) , learn to create ASE modifiers to filter by g_maxforcerank, get on non-force servers, etc.

It won't let me put more images in my message, so adding here:

I'm using a No-CD Crack and my game crashes! :ball:

Don't use a No CD crack - it's not supported and will cause problems in MP. Use Daemon Tools and Clone CD (as mentioned in the guide) if you want to be cd-free.

Don't use this method to copy the game illegally or you'll have nitemares of flesh eating Ewoks!

I can't get ASE filters to work correctly! :ball:

There are modifiers under the JK2 listing, + symbols with boxes for check marks.

Do this:

Click on all the modifiers you ever want, ping, empty/server, etc etc .. then click on "Filter Combine".

Make a new filter (not a modifier) and you should be able to use just that filter based on the gametype modifiers, sabers, etc that you choose.

Now, it gets even cooler.

After you make that combined filter, let's say you edit it and it looks like mine:

JK2 CTF All No Bots

1 if servertype != "JK2" remove

2 if g_gametype != "7" remove

3 if g_weaponDisable != "0" remove

4 if g_forcePowerDisable != "0" remove

5 if ping >= "100" remove

6 if needpass > "0" remove

7 if maxclients == "0" goto 9

8 if clients >= maxclients remove

9 if clients == "0" remove

10 if bots > "0" remove

(normal filter checked)

Notice weapon, force, etc. are all there.

But I also want one where I know the force has a certain minimal level so I copied that info and went to Filter - New:

Name: JK2 CTF ALL No Bot With Full Force

1 if servertype != "JK2" remove

2 if g_gametype != "7" remove

3 if g_weaponDisable != "0" remove

4 if g_forcePowerDisable != "0" remove

5 if ping >= "100" remove

6 if needpass > "0" remove

7 if maxclients == "0" goto 9

8 if clients >= maxclients remove

9 if clients == "0" remove

10 if bots > "0" remove

11 if g_maxForceRank < "6" remove

(normal filter checked)

Notice line 11 - I want a minimal of Max Force Rank 6.

Let's use another example - I want Sabers only with different force variations:

I used the combine filter method...

Name: JK2 FFA Saber Only No Force

1 if servertype != "JK2" remove

2 if g_gametype != "0" remove

3 if g_weaponDisable != "65531" remove

4 if g_forcePowerDisable < "32765" remove

5 if ping >= "100" remove

6 if clients == "0" remove

7 if bots > "0" remove

(normal filter checked)

Name: JK2 Saber Only With Force

1 if servertype != "JK2" remove

2 if g_gametype != "0" remove

3 if g_weaponDisable != "65531" remove

4 if g_forcePowerDisable != "0" remove

5 if ping >= "100" remove

6 if clients == "0" remove

7 if bots > "0" remove

(normal filter checked)

Note: Notice the difference in rule "g_forcePowerDisable", line 4.

Name: JK2 Saber Only With Full Force

1 if servertype != "JK2" remove

2 if g_gametype != "0" remove

3 if g_weaponDisable != "65531" remove

4 if g_forcePowerDisable != "0" remove

5 if ping >= "100" remove

6 if clients == "0" remove

7 if bots > "0" remove

8 if g_maxForceRank < "6" remove

(normal filter checked)

Notice line 8 - I want a minimal of Max Force Rank 6.

If you need more help with ASE filter setup for JK2, respond here and I can try to help (no promises), or you can visit the ASE forum:

http://www.udpsoft.com/forum/

In ASE - I can't find my buddies and they can't find me! :ball:

There are different ways to do this, you can click on Tools - Find Buddy Names ...

Or the easiest way is once you actually find what server a buddy is on - via ASE - right click on the server and choose 'Refresh Selected Servers'. Next, when you see his name under the server's "Player Name" list, right click on the name and choose 'Add to buddy list'.

The other way is also to use the intergrated ICQ features - if you want others to know where you are:

Click on View - Options - Events - under "When Launching game" -check mark "Set ICQ Status To", etc, etc.

Also, click on View - Options - Events - under "When Returning from game" - check mark "Set ICQ Status To", etc, etc.

I keep reading about 'realistic saber and dismemberment ' in single-player but I can't find out how to enable it!

:ball:

"If you’re playing single player Jedi Outcast, do yourself a favor and hit these commands in the console (to get the console hit shift and ~ at the same time):

helpUsObi 1

g_saberRealisticCombat 1

g_dismemberment 1

This cranks the violence rating up, and allows you to hack off limbs

with the light saber. Normally you can only chop off a hand once in a while, but with these settings you will always chop off a limb, ahead, or separate a torso, just how you would expect a real light

saber to act. This is the way Jedi Outcast should be played."

http://firingsquad.gamers.com/games/jediknight2/page2.asp

Note: If you change "g_saberRealisticCombat 1" to anything higher than "1" you can kill easier but also be killed easier.

I can't see my FPS (frames per second) in the game! :ball:

Display the console in-game, use the keys: Shift (and) ~

Type: cg_drawfps 1 (hit enter)

I saw a guy make the lightsaber spin while standing still! :ball:

Ah, that's easy.

Use light or medium stance. Throw the light saber and hold down secondary fire, make it go far, when it comes back, hold primary fire while dodging it 'once' .. be sure to keep holding down primary fire.. the light saber will begin to spin around you as you stand still. You can move around like this as well, but not jump or fall. You must keep holding down primary fire to keep it spinning.

You can also make it spin by itself. Do the same above, and keep holding primary fire .. then choose 'taunt' and after the taunt is finished, move - remember, always keep holding primary fire.

I can't find any custom maps! :ball:

The custom maps are amazing stuff.

Check these sites out for lots of custom maps:

http://www.jedioutcastmaps.com/

and:

http://www.jediknightii.net/files/

This guy was actually floating in the air from a ledge! :ball:

Easy enough. Go into blue saber stance.

Jump from a high location. As you jump hold down primary fire, crouch and forward all at once. You should start stepping down slowly.

I saw someone climb a wall on a map - and go on an invisible ledge! :ball:

This is how you climb walls from corners:

Go to a corner or side of a wall - simply push forward, strafe left or right into the corner or side and hit jump only once - keep holding strafe and forward. This will allow you to scale walls across and/or upward.

Heavy Stance Revisted:

The Heavy Stance sucks! I can get hit from really far away! It's a spam Stance!

:ball:

Relax - the Raven Dev is working on it in the upcoming patch.

Will it be nerfed? Probably not.

Will the 3 foot or so damage radius be fixed? Yes.

As you can see they are only going to tweak the damage radius. They aren't going to the change the way it fundamentally works . . .

Read Below:

" sent them a suggestion and got this reply!

"Consider it forwarded. Just a note: the heavy stance has been tweaked heavily in the pending patch to balance it better.

I saw this guy laying down and sliding on his back! :ball:

bind key "color1 1; wait; color1 2; wait; color1 1"

key = whatever you want to bind.

You might have to push the key a couple times. It may lag you if you your connection isn't fast DSL or cable or higher.

If you want to run and slide, just run and while running hit the key.

These newbies are ruining the game! :ball:

Stop whining about newbies, you were once as well.

Get the person's attention and have a small in-game chat.

Offer to show the newbie what you know and get him interested in playing the game with skill.

Offer to duel him and take a few minutes of your precious time to show the newbie how to swing a saber, kick people, use force push and pull correctly, etc.

Once that 'newbie' learns how cool it is to play well, he'll be wanting to learn more and focus on developing skills instead of just randomly trying things out.

Commentary:

I believe it's our obligation as we become more 'seasoned players' to show the 'newbies' how to play better instead of just complaining about them all the time or calling them names.

It's the only true way to make this a better community. :)

I think I'm one of the only players that look out for the 'padawans.'

Sometimes I'll just duel them and I know that I could kick their ewok butt, but I make the duel as long as possible and sometimes let them beat me. One of the most important parts of playing this game is self confidence.

Oh crap, I got a MX................

Strangely, it works fine for me...................................

Crap. Should I stop pounding my Radeon into a fine powder of sour memory and bitter circumstance, borne upon the shoulders of cutting irony and the vicious immediacy of this fair sphere's motion that turns my being so? Oh woe be the day that..... [trails off]

Hey! You there!

Wow that sure was helpful. Maybe in the case of an MX200, but a GF4 MX 440 or 460 is plenty enough to play JK2:JO at 1600x1200. MX400 should be able to hack 1024x768x32 medium or so detail fine. Why are MX cards crappy? Just because not everyone wants to shell out the extra $$$ for a GF4 Ti 4600?

Whine Whine Whine, us FF guners are not the ones whining for patches that take away gameplay from how it was origionally designed. Just cause all the NewB's spam the forums, and complain cause people with gun skill are whooping on them, means that the supporters of JK (I BOUGHT my own copy) get a big phat co*k in their mouths?

It as simple as NOT UPDATING our servers. Have fun with all your nueb friends on all your nueb servers.

Acceptable risk: About the MX Geforce's, they are NOT a good 3d card. The 3d graphix and vertex shaders are all part of the INFINITE FX (II in G4's) engine which is NOT part of the mx series. Get a $169 Geforce 4 Ti4200. The best deal going right now. (I'd highly recommend the 128mb version though for $30 more) http://www.pricewatch.com

Actually I have a Leadtek GF 4 Ti 4400 ;)

And my uncle has a Leadtek GF 4 MX 440.

Both of us have XP 1600+ processors backed up with 512MB DDR and KT266A based boads.

The difference? I can use FSAA 2X at 1600x1200x32 and he can't...but otherwise you'll be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two.

JK2:JO doesn't use any of the advanced features of the nFinite engines found on the GF3 and GF4, so I don't know why it's posted in this FAQ that GF2MX cards are crap. This is a game based off a DX7 engine, so it'll look the same on a GF2 as on a GF4.

Now if we were talking about Morrowind...why yes, the MX is a POS in that game. :D

The 1.03 patch sucks! :ball:

Congratulations - you can thank all the whiners who didn't read the guide and take advice from skilled players!

I hereby now call 1.03 "The Official Whiner's Patch".

Now the game is completely lopsided toward random auto-saber-defenses, super hack attack sabering, and ultra-light force absorb.

Now instead of DFA you have the - even worse - spinning backstab people.

Drain, Grip, Kick have all been nerfed to oblivion.

Now without a good force drain you're having major lightening attacks along with other super-jedi in absorb force power's and their back-stabbing spams.

Grip is about as useful and fun to defend against as shadow boxing.

Kicks are not even worth trying anymore (50% hit ratio if you're really lucky) - and they used to be the only way to truly defend oneself against overwhelming odds - plus they were just darn fun.

Forget about using dark force powers, you're nothing if you don't have the uber light absorb that makes you a superman.

1.03 is JK2 meets Nintendo!

Thank you whiner's of 1.02 - instead of reading the Whiner's Guide and learning to actually play - you ruined the game for those who have skill!

Thanks guys!
