Cmdr. Antilles
Thanks a lot! While I'm nowhere near proffesional, I appreciate hearing comments like that. Makes me work on my map even when I don't feel like it at first.
Cmdr. Antilles
I'm having a little trouble... Can anyone point me to some good sand textures? I've been searching for a long time, and I haven't found exactly what I need. I'm looking for a good rippled sand look, like on a dune... Thanks in advance. Kenobi-Fett
Well I definately think that the first option of instant death when you fall into the Sarlacc's gob is prefferable to ending up in a small red room going "Ow ... Ow ... <dies>". For the Sarlacc's burp here's a .wav of what the Boba Fett Fanclub site reckons is the bit where Boba gets swallowed (I however think it's earlier on but hey there's still a burp at the end which you can use) - http://poland.bobafettfanclub.com/MULTIMEDIA/audio/sarlacc.wav One thing that concerns me is the gradient on the sides of the Pit. Are you going to have it that you can land on the side of the pit and jump back up onto the skiffs or will the player slide down the pit walls into the Sarlacc? I think the latter would be the best ... Anyway that's some dang good mapping there Cmdr. Antilles, it's nice to see another iconic Star Wars battleground getting built. It'll make a nice change from the endless base/Star Destroyer/interior levels we seem to be getting at the mo.
Cmdr. Antilles
Whenever I think I have a nice suprise for you guys, somebody guesses it! Yes, the sides will be slick. And thanks for the wav. If I can't get a good burp out of it, I'll just find another burb somewhere to use.
Darkhold X
I messed around with that sound file abit. I was able to take out the part before hand, and take out some of the scratchiness. It needs to be slowed down though with the same pitch, but Im not sure what I would need to do that job.
Cmdr. Antilles
I dunno either. If you want to try to get it working, I'll put you in the readme if I use it. If not, it's okay, because it's a pretty standard burb...
Darkhold X
Well I will try to find another burp also. But it would be nice to have the original sound.

Kenobi-Fett
Well I've had a look round on a few movies sounds sites plus google and that seems to be the best clip you're gonna get of the Sarlacc burp from the film. You could either try editing and cleaning it up (I'll have a go on Wav Studio but don't hold yer breath), ripping a new sample from the film yourself or try looking for video clips of that scene on the net that you could rip the audio from. Or you could hold a contest. Get people to record themselves burping and the best one has the honour of becoming the Sarlacc burp ... ... or maybe that's just a terrible idea:rolleyes: Anyway mucho thanks and encouragement for your hard work on this great looking level. Kranckor
Antilles, did you really think we wouldn't ask for the slick walls?
Kenobi-Fett
Hey here's an idea. If it turns out that the burp just ain't happening how about having Jabba's "Ho ho ho!" ring out over the dune sea when someone becomes Sarlacc fodder? Not ideal, but I think it would work well because Jabba's that sort of sadistic nut who likes throwing people to the Sarlacc, and that is why the sail barge and the skiffs are there after all. Just and idea ... feel free to dismiss it;)
pud1
heres some shots you can use in judging size of mouth of special editon sarlacc. http://www.vfxhq.com/1997/sw-3.html BTW I've been busy so I haven't been around lately
Cmdr. Antilles
Okay... Manquesa, thanks for those links. I might be able to make something from that... As for the burb... I'll probably end up finding another burb that sounds like it. The slick walls are kinda cool, but it's relatively easy to jump out of the pit when you have your jump ability bumped up to level 3... I don't think there's too much I can do about that, though. I'm also working on getting the sarlacc head looking just right. My big problem is figuring out how to block off the map... I don't want to just have some invisible wall stop you in the middle of the desert, so I'm trying to think of creative ways of ending the map. Also, I'm going to build the whole map w/ out the interior of the barge, then check fps. I'm getting a little worried. After I see how that goes, I'll decide whether or not to include the interior. But, I'm not going to release this map until I'm satisfied w/ it. I'll try to get you some pics of the pit next compile. I know how important it is to see some nice screenies. Cmdr. Antilles
Heheh... Thanks. Maybe it's because this is my first MP map that ever got this far. Hopefully, I'll have a couple screenies for you tommorrow. I'll be compiling overnight.
Cmdr. Antilles
Okay... Update time. I've gotten pretty far w/ the sarlacc pit itself: http://home.attbi.com/~davidcrivera/images/jk2/sarlacc.jpg Take a look, and tell me what you think. I'm really happy w/ the way it turned out. I think the textures worked well w/ all the patch meshes. (if you recognize any textures, keep it to yourslef. ) So, as always, I'd like some feedback. Oh, and as for how it works, right now when you fall in, the head pops up, and you die in the fade-kill way. After messing around w/ some other option, I really think this is the best way. It looks cool when you see the big mouth and tounge right in your face before everything fades to black. And, it makes the players scream. hehehheh... Stop giving away my secrets! The already kinda puslate due to a shader effect. I think I'm going to have them moving a bit more in the final release. But they already wiggle. pud1
THEY MOVE? ROFL!! how the hell did you end up making that happen or was it a mistake that you liked? How is the texturing of the barge comming?, it looks like your pretty much done with everything else. skiff looks great...sarlacc looks great...what about the sand textures for the rest of the map ?
Cmdr. Antilles
I guess I didn't word that right. I intentionally made a new shader that made them move. The barge is okay... The interior is giving me headaches, so I've stopped working on it for now, so that I can concentrate on the terrain. So far, I only have 1 good sand texture. I'm trying to get more to add some variety to the map. I'm also disatisfied w/ my current terrain, so I'll probably be starting over... I'm trying to make some good looking terrain that looks natural, and also ends natural, without invisble walls in the middle of the desert. Machine_IX
Nice sarlac It's smaller than I thought it would be, but I think I thought the same thing when I say the SE too. About ending the map, here's an idea that I'm not sure I like... but it's an idea. have dunes going off, if you make them big they will vis block (I was actualy lucky enough to go for a walk in the sahara and when you are between dunes all you can see is the dune behind, the dune in front and the sky above, also the dunes were high up and about the same level, so even at the top of a dune you could see very little) so you can have them go on for a while, after a certain distance from the main action have players start to recive damage due to the heat, enough to make it impossible to heal themselves with max force heal, (you could also have it scale up as they get further away) so they will die in the desert. If theres no sheilds, health or weapons, and the terain is fairly regular you might have a schirmish (yow! sp.) or two at the edge of the heat stroke bit but players would naturaly gravitate to the barge and the sarlac. As I said I'm not sure I like it, but it might be easier than trying to box the whole lot in with natural looking terrain.... or not. TuskenUK
hey i have a pretty cool idea for blocking off the map. How about using as Kraytt Dragon skeleton like in ANH..that would stop people from gettin very far....how about havin some automated guns or something that shoot if you try and escape..just a thought
