RTOJ space battle question...

I have a question about the final space battle in Return, why the hell did the Rebel fleet have those transports in it? Those things were supposed to have VERY weak shielding, very poor hull plating, and shuch a low-capacity power plant in it, the only weapons it could use were the heavy blaster cannons or light laser cannons, and they were mounted in foreward firing position, and they couldn't rotate. So, why were they in the fleet? Where they meant to be cannon fodder or what? Or did they just look cool, and the special effects guys just put them in there for the hell of it?

erm....you do know that this is a rebellion we are talking about? im sure that they didnt have much money so this means they cant be choosy about what ships they have. and considering they were trying to make a massive offensive they were probably sending every ship they have.

I'm sure you've played a strategy game.

Let's use Red Alert for example: when attacking the emeny I usually send out infantry infront of the tanks. Even though they have minimal health and firepower, they are cheaper to build and can draw fire from the enemy's defenses while I make my attack with the more powerful vehicles.

About the Imperial fleet, well, most of them turned tail and ran like mad SOB's when the deathstar blew, but a few of them surrendered and decided to join the Rebellion, and any of the disable ones that felt like putting up a fight were boarded and taken over. After all is said and done, not only does the Alliance have a good number of those bitching Mon Cal crusiers, they also got a few Imperial Star Destroyers, not too shabby if I do say so myself.

For a more detaild descripition about that, go read The Truce at Bakura which starts out just mere days after the battle ends, and fills us all in as to what happens with the Imperial fleet, as well as the Rebels.

I always thought that the mon calimari cruisers were better than the star destroyers. Still even after Death star 2 blows up, there should still be an Imp fleet. Or do they all run away when the Super stardestroyer gets destroyed?

It was explained in the Heir to the empire trilogy of books by Tim Zahn that the Emperor was secertly keeping his various ship captains, admirals & troops, etc focused via the Force & when he died they all kinda went nuts and started doing their own thing.

XERXES, if you like the Heir series, check out the New Jedi Order saga when you get a chance. Those books are by far the BEST series of any science fiction books out there, and talk about a fark story line. But be warned, there is over 20 books (I'm counting ALL of them, even the ones in the Young Adult books that center around Jacen and Jania). But, man are they good!
