Kasowitz
From Episode 4: BEN: Well of course, of course I know him. He's me! I haven't gone by the name Obi-Wan since oh, before you were born. LUKE: Then the droid does belong to you. BEN: Don't seem to remember ever owning a droid. Very interesting... how come he doesnt remember R2 and C3PO when they are standing right there in front of him on Tatooine ?
Topdan
Again, the easy and real answer to that, is that in 1977, Lucas never imagined that 25 years later people would ask question on some anomalies. But a true Star Wars fan will answer that in fact Obi Wan never owned the droids. He knew them, but they were not his...
XERXES
ok...i am sure that lucas knew he was going to make the prequels as he said that. Besides..the droids were never really his...he was just with them for a little...if you remember, they were with anakin and amidalla most of the time. Cracken
Do you realize how many droids Obi-Wan had seen by ANH? Like he's supposed to be able to remember a little astromech and a busted-ass protocol droid.
XERXES
ah hahahahahahahahahahaha "busted-ass protocal droid"
Talnova
Yeah. There are probably millions of astromech and protocol droids that look just like R2 and 3PO. No body told Obi-Wan thier names so he didn't recognise them. What I find strange is that 3PO didn't recognise him (R2 obviously did, and also knew where he lived). If lucas were smart he would have 3PO get his memory wiped somewhere in Ep III.
Wossname
What's he supposed to say? "Ahh, it's good old C3PO and R2D2!" "Oh, how do you know them?" "Well, C3PO was built by your father, Darth Vader." Obi-Wan is already later shown to be lying in that conversation, so why can't he be lying a little more? Admitting he knows the droids would just cause Luke to ask some difficult questions. Obi-Wan says "I don't seem to recall ever owning a droid." - he doesn't actually deny knowing it, so what he told Luke was true "From a certain point of view." (As he says in Jedi)
Verbatim
He never "owned" them anyway.
XERXES
"I don't seem to recall ever owning a droid." as far as that means...he just said he doesnt remember...or "recall" I mean...he did go through a lot before then...and beig that old, im sure that there is a lot to remember. Tank_Comie4545
all that i have to say is that obi wan may have not reconized the droids but the droids would reconize him and r2 is so "dumb" that he would have blerted it out so they must have been wiped. Andy867
wasn't Obi Wan present when they are discussing about R2 saving the ship from the Droid Control Ship? maybe he wasn't, but I would think that he would be present..
XERXES
im sure R2 isnt the only blue astromech droid out there.
adam123
In this same scene Obi Wan also tells Luke that his father is dead. These are not plot inconsistencies they are plot ambiguities. As someone else pointed out, Obi Wan's statements prevent some very difficult questions from arising; questions which neither Luke nor the audience is ready to hear. pud1
On his Jedi Starfighter(which is really cool with the light-speed ring engine on it) He used R4 on his ship to help him through the asteroid field and get transmitions out.) I guess he either forgot about R4 or it was property of the Jedi Council lol

OldSkoolJedi
Well Im REEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAALLLLLY Gonna have to go with the memory wipe.... Cuz Thered Be No Answer To This... C3P0 In ANH when hes getting cleaned at the very start says something like..."Im Still Trying To Figure Out Where I Am" But like didn't he spend at least 10 years on owens farm ? Let Alone On Tatooine ? By The End Of The Star Wars Trilogy I'm Going To End Up In An Instituition...

sid
Something else Lucas didn't realise...or can we also blame forgetfulness on Owen Lars' part for not remebering at least c3p0 in the jawa lineup in A New Hope? r2d2 he did't remeber because astromech droids are so common possibly ..but 3p0 was with him for serveral years from when Anakin built him to the time he left (ran off?) with them to rescue Obi-wan (10+ years). BlackDove
AOTC+ANH=20 or more years difference. If my grandfather died now, in 20 years not only would I barely remember him, I would probably forget him totally. Let alone 2 fly+by droids...
OldSkoolJedi
Maybe So, But That Still Doesnt Explain Why C3p0 Forgot About a place he lived on for +10yrs Unless Of Course The Evil Ewoks Wiped His Memory Somewhere in Ep 3 Oh And He Cant Have Of HAd His Memory Wiped By The Jawas, otherwise why whould he remember r2 ?
