The problem is the game can't initialize the renderer using OpenGL (yeah, yeah, tell you something you don't know). This is either a driver or video card problem (again, tell you something you don't know). Can you run the game in safe mode? I know it suX0rs, but if you really want to play, play in software (safe) mode. Other than that, the game either can't find, or can't use your OpenGL driver. This is either a Windows problem, or an nVidia problem. There are things you can do to try and fix it.

1. Sometimes, just switching the video driver isn't good enough because the previous one may have left a little something behind. Download the Detonator Destroyer and run it from a safe mode session of Windows. That should kill all your previous nVidia driver files. Then you can experiment with different driver levels to see if any of them work. Raven was only able to test nVidia cards using 23.11 (the latest at the time) so that should be a good starting point. I'm using nVidia 28.32 and it's OK so far.

2. (the route I would take) Judging from the information you posted from your console, it appears that your Windows copy of OpenGL.dll is either out of date, or possibly corrupt. Use Windows Update to bring your system up to full speed and check the MS knowledgebase to see if there are any updates to the OpenGL.dll file (doubtful). The nVidia drivers, or a DirectX install, will replace this file anyways so you may have a different corrupt Windows file. See where this is going? Time to reinstall Windows.

A friend of mine has the same problem with same hardware, and he's reinstalled windows numerous times to no avail.

I'll get him to try the detonator destroy thinger.

BTW, this is a geforce2 pci card im guessing? thats what my bud is using.

Only way he's gotten it to work so far was by loading another person's cfg file who had similar hardware.

Why do we GF2 MX users get stormed by these problems?!Here's mine:

GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem

Although I never did anything yet,I'd really like some advice before initializing something.

When I looked at the support page,I saw that my card is supported, but I don't know about the latest OpenGL drivers, which one is it?And what is turned all the way up?!

Is this God's warning for me to study before I must play?!

And my XP(home,of course) doesn't ask me which mode to start,it just starts.

I JUST wonder why we GF2 MX users get stormed by this problem. And my PC slows down, since JO was installed.I went HIGH and LOW to search for a game, and here, this is the problem I et?I even bought the game from a shop that is the other side of the earth.Guess what:it has a problem.Do you expect me to come all the way back here, having lost the receipt?Cheez!

Oh yeah, the store's name is GameStop,in Milwaukee,WI,use Interstate 43S 94W to reach the mall, the mall which contains the shop should be opposite Best Buy,next to Circuit City.

Erg... I have this problem with my Matrox G450, and I shiver at the thought of updating my video driver. Last time I tried that, my monitor went totally nuts, and I had to delete the driver and reinstall my card in safemode :(. If I could fix this problem without messing with my video driver, I would be SO happy.

BTW. I have this exact same problem with Elite Force, and this game also generates that problem on my mom's PC, which has an ATI Rage card.

I am geting exactly the same fault as you but the strange thing is I played multiplayer 4 nights running with no problem but the next night it just wouldn't work and to the best of my knowledge I hadn't changed anything. It's driving me up the wall!

I have a Gforce2 with Win98.

Hello > Everybody

Im having the same g@y problem, I didnt buy this d@mn game just to look at it!!

Im guessing it has something to do with the Graphics Card cuz on the reqs. it says Graphics Card: 16MB OpenGl -compatible PCI or AGP 3D Hardware Accelerator required.

If I dont have it then why when I select "Analyze Your Computer"

it says "Your computer is qualified to play Star Wars Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast!"?

i tried about 3 different updates for my ATI card ranging from 3rd party updates to the official one and I still have the problem. It used to run fine in ME but now it screwed up because of XP.

I'm sick and tired of this mess...how do you run it in Software mode.

how do you run it in Software mode

Use the safemode shortcuts in your startmenu. But this way all your settings will reset to default when you start a game.

Another option is to edit jk2config.cfg and jk2mpconfig.cfg with wordpad. Add seta r_allowSoftwareGL 1 to both files (if it crashes your system just remove that line) .

how do you enable compatibility mode?

Concerning the OpenGL problems, make sure that seta r_ignoreGLErrors is set to 1 in both config files.
