Norin Radd
I have e n00b question. Is it true that some Jedi/Dark Jedi/Sith ignite their sabers by sheer will of The Force and do not need an activation switch?
guest
Yes that is true. Spolier! In the Dark Horse Comic " Dark Empire", Luke goes to the darkside where he has a black saber that he activates through the force, there is no switch.
Sinister_Evil
there is more than that...sabers use some kinda crystals to work sith use artificial crystals and power them with dark force energy to make the stronger than the crystals light side uses...and there was this sith guy in the really old days (cant remember his name) with a double saber that he chaneled energy through making it grow larger...but this is expanded universe crap so dont sleep on it. Jaster21801
THat would be the infamous Exar Kun that used the double-bladed saber... I wish I could find that comic... I seem to remember him being able to separate the handle into two sabers, but I can't remember exactly... oh welll.....
Jaster21801
MOST sabers do work with a switch, but some work by being touched with the Force... This way only Jedi/Sith can use the saber
Norin Radd
Talk about concentration. It's draining enough to use the force, now imagine being in a duel and having to keep your saber activated by sheer will.
COJ
never heard of lightsabers using the force, normally, when ur that strong with a saber, u use lightning and stuff
Jaster21801
it was only in the EU stuff... so don't take it to heart... Lucas might contradict it sooner or later...
Leagle
I mean, the switch just does stuff in a circuit of some sort, activates a powerplant, etc. You could do the same thing by manipulating the circuit with the force -instaed of a lever moving the inner parts, you move them yourself. ET Warrior
as Leagle said, you wouldn't neccisarily have to keep your concentration on it the entire time, one quick force push/pull to connect the circuit, and then it stays on until you force turn it off.... that's just silly that the siths made their sabers stronger by channeling force energy through the crystals........what exactly would this more powerful saber do? The blade is......more......laseerish........?
