Royal Guards?

I've seen them in the OT and the prequels but they do nothing but stand around. In previous posts i've read that they are not to be messed with. I was wondering why that is and if anyone knows their origin, Also i'm guessing Jedi's would have no problem taking them out right.

you saw royal guards in ep 1? Astounding........i think you might be the only person alive who did..........

They are the elite of the elite guardians, they're like uber super stormtroopers.........they probably originated since, as you probably know.....most important figures are given their own private guards......so someone....like....the supreme chancellor would be given them.....Only a really crappy padawan would have trouble one on one with them i would think

Actually, they are present in Episode 1, just not in the exact form we know from the Original Trilogy.

They are Supreme Chancellor Valurum's Senate guards and can be seen when the Noobian Royal Starship docks with the landing platform in Coruscant and Chancellor Valorum meets the Queen, but instead of being red they are blue and their visor is open instead of a tinted visor. They also have a "head dress" on top of the helmet. This is where the Red Imperial guards are derived from, which we see very briefly in Episode 2 and of course in Return of the Jedi.

so those ARE royal guards then?.....i had decided since they looked not much the same as the good ol royal guards that i would call them.......Chancellor guards.....;)

Well, like I said, the Imperial Guards are derived from the senate guards so they are not exactly the same, but REALLY, REALLY close.

So close that even though Palpatine is not Emperor yet in Episode 2, his Senate Guards look exactly like Imperial Guards (Red with visor), so they are pretty much interchangable at this point, just different time periods, that's all!

Okay okay, i'll admit it....i didn't remember seeing the guards in EP 1, and i was just trying to cover my ignorance with a silly remark.......*cries*

[TOM HANK"S VOICE] "What? Are you... Are you CRYING?! Argh, there's no crying in Star Wars (replaced Baseball)!" [/TOM HANK'S VOICE] :D

J/K :D

That's okay if you don't remember seeing them. That just means you didn't waste hours of you life watching Star Wars movies over and over instead of having a normal social life, like I did! :p

What are you talking about the Royal Guards helped Padme catch the Viceroys, if it wasn't for them they wouldn't have been cought because of all the droids surrounding the viceroys...

Umm... hrm... how to say this nicely..... Wrong royal guards... We're talking about the Coruscant guards who wore blue in Phantom Menace and red in the others...

What are you talking about?

We're talking about the Imperial guards from ROTJ and Episode 2, who we're previously shown with Chancellor Valorum, in Episode 1, but blue without tinted visors, instead of Red with blackened visors!

:guard: <--- These guys! :p

The royal guard action figures come with a "force pike" which comes with some plastic lightning bolts. On the back of the card it says that they are so skilled in the deadly arts they chose not to use a blaster and use force pikes instead. That would be really cool in EP III if ... say that 5-6 of these royal guards took on a single jedi, that would be quite a fight.
