txa1265 Posted June 7, 2002 Posted June 7, 2002 OK, so JKII rates (on average) around 90% (100% scale), MoHAA about the same, RtCW a bit lower (perhaps 87.5%), SoFII around 85%. Admittedly, these are all pretty sweet games that I've very much enjoyed playing. I was just wondering if anyone could cite some examples of FPS games with the full range of rankings - not just your own opinion, but from reviews as well. We know Half-Life seems to com out at 95%+, and C&C Renegade is below the reat from above (perhaps 75%?) Any thoughts? Mike
iguelmay Posted June 8, 2002 Posted June 8, 2002 i think its called "extreme paintbrawl" the designers admited they spent 2 weeks on it, and the game shipped with no AI..... it got 6% i think in PC Gamer
Pedantic Posted June 8, 2002 Posted June 8, 2002 Good God, why did they even bother reviewing something like that?
Tiran Dev Posted June 8, 2002 Posted June 8, 2002 iguelmay i have also read the review of that Extreme Paintbrawl game, and laughed my ass off. The reviews mentioned so many glitches and bad points, if anyone was to read it they would never even consider the game!
txa1265 Posted June 18, 2002 Author Posted June 18, 2002 As I think about it, when flipping through magazines you are more likely to see crap games than when you are online - at least I am - because of the non-linear nature of web browsing. I would never click on the PaintBrawl review to begin with ... But I really like MacAddict (I know Mac's are somewhat anathema here) in that it does an indepth review coupled with a text description. Rather than 95%, it says 'Freakin' Awesome', with a guy freakin' out. Low scorers get a 'Blech!' with a guy who looks like he's about to hurl ... I also find it interesting how 'revisionist' scoring can be. It seems so many games get really high scores, but they sour very quickly ... I have to admit to that myself. It often takes the second play for me to realize that the AI is mediocre, the hit detection is lousy, that maps are too linear, and so on ... the first time is about the thrill of the game.
