Let's be honest Maul would beat both of them 1 on 1 the only reason Maul is taking out because of storyline issues. His popularity is amazing for the brief time he was on screen. I think (and mind you this is just my opinion), that Lucas was afraid of Maul's popularity. That it would eclipse Vader's, if Maul had more time to develop his character he would make Vader obsolete.

I myself never liked Vader and it was Maul who made me interested in the Dark Jedi. Like, I said before put Maul one on one with qui or Vader and it's early grave for those two.

I'm not a Vader fanatic by a long shot, but i think we have to remember what Anakin SKywalker said in EP 2,... how he said :I will be become the most powerful jedi ever" And that's exactly what he did! Now,...the first time Luke battled his father in Cloud city,...he lost horribly,....And why was that?? Because the reason Vader was soo good is that Vader had the power of the darkside which he fed his rage into; allowing his skill to surpass everyother jedi's. In ROTJ,...at the last confrontation between father and son,..Luke would have lost,....But Vader taunted Luke into using his rage. Be honest, that's what it was. When Vader made that comment about his sister than Luke screamed at him and jumped in,...slamming his lightsaber around and cutting Vader's hand off. My personal opinion is that the only person who could have ever defeated Vader was his son, so Qui-Gon could not match his skill against Vader's raw rage-fed power,.. he just wasn't portrayed as that skilled of a lightsaber combatist..hope my logic came through...

It was like darkjedi said above... You can't compare any of the fights between Vader and Luke... Vader's goal was to get Luke to turn to the darkside and become an ally... not kill him... so Vader was never out for blood against Luke... Luke's style was wild and careless... He took many clumsy and stupid swings which could have easily been capitalized on... He also missed ample times to provide a counter attack as well... Luke was never really trained in the art of the lightsaber, and thus this really reflected on his fighting abilities and techniques at the time of the movies... Vader could have easy took him down in a matter of minutes if he had wished too... but that wasn't his objective... Luke wouldn't have lasted 10 seconds against Maul... and wouldn't stand a chance against Qui as well... I must compliment darkjedi on his article... It was quite impressive and went into alot of good detail about the fighters at question... but do remember... you can't look at Luke and Vader and determine Vader's saber skills... He was basically just toying with an untrained boy... who... if his skills with the force weren't so great... would have never lasted as long as he did... Now don't get me wrong about Luke... I like him and all... but you have to look at the facts there... His saber technique was rather clumsy and lacked control...

bleh obi-wan surrend0red himself to the f0rce.

obi-wan has beaten him before according to EU

Qui-gon is teh hippy so he would win by handing vader a doobie then sab0r0xing him while he wasnt looking.... hmmm wonder how vader would smoke through that thing.

As for Maul vs Vader

Round 1 - Actors.

Round 4 - Transport

Maul: Jets around in slick Sith Infiltrator spacecraft with a sexy Sith speeder at his disposal. ****

Vader: Had a cool T.I.E. Fighter scuppered by Han Solo in his Millennium Falcon. Was then given the Executor, the Star Wars version of the Titanic. ***

Round 5 - Killings

Maul: Total number of killings to date: 1 *

Vader: Total number of killings to date: 1 OAP Jedi, untold rebels, whole planets. He even kills his own officers. ****

Vader: Looks a bit like Humpty Dumpty with his mask off. **

Round 8 - Outfits

Vader: Decked out in knackered motorcycle leathers and a slot machine on his breast plate. *

Maul: Answers to Darth Sidious, a mysterious figure in a hood. ***

Vader: Answers to Emperor Palpatine, a mysterious figure in a hood. ***

Round 10 - Dialogue

Maul: Has a handful of lines, all pretty dull (e.g. "Tatooine is sparsely populated. If the trace was correct, I will find them quickly, master.") **

Vader: Has loads of lines, most of them really cool. (e.g. "Your powers are weak old man.") ****

Round 11 - Fighting Skills

Maul: During lightsaber duels, he takes on two Jedi at once, utilizing backflips, gymnastics, kung fu and the mother of double bladed lightsabers to win out. *****

Vader: During lightsaber duels, he struggles against a sixty something warrior and a young kid, utilizing heavy breathing and revealing family history to win out. **

Round 12 - Force Skills

Maul: Rarely uses the force - opts for hi-tech probe droids and lightsaber trickery. **

Vader: Always uses the force - to sense presences, to strangle people, to put money on the lottery etc. ****

Round 13 - Music

Maul: Appearances accompanied by scary symphonies and choral chanting known as Duel Of The Fates. ****

Vader: Appearances accompanied by the meanest, moodiest movie music ever known as The Imperial March (Darth Vader's theme) *****

Round 14 - Jokes

Maul: Gives good double entendre via the "Darth Maul's Horny" gag. ***

Vader: Gives great double entendre via the "Darth Vader's Helmet" gag. ****

Round 15 - Adverts

Maul: Yet to be signed up to sell us washing powder or soft drinks. ***

Vader: Appeared in a Tunes commercial. no stars

FINAL SCORE

Maul: 44

Vader: 45

So after a titanic struggle between these two mighty Sith Warriors, it is Vader who comes out on top. But only just.

(hmm.. but as for Luke, the lad never got trained in the ways of saber fighting while Vader spent years getting instructed in the ways of saber combat by Obi-Wan, so I think Luke did a pretty good job for only having had one lesson with a lightsaber.. against a remote....no wonder he got his butt kicked! He has had virtually no experience in saber combat while Vader had tons of experience with a lightsaber, so hey, give the guy credit for lasting so long against that dark lord of the Sith who is proclaimed to be able to whoop anyone's butt, and also, look how good he is now in JKII hehe. Killing Reborns with ease ;) )

Anyways, Qui-Gon vs. Vader. I think we're forgetting about Vader's personality. We all know that Anakin really looked up to Qui-Gon Jinn. I think he would be having real troubles with himself having to fight with the man who looked up to the most. And knowing Qui-Gon he'd probably be making some good attempts at reaching the kind Anakin, the chosen one he had found on Tatooine, hidden inside that big walking armour known as Vader, so that he can finish this fight without having to kill the boy he had found. But then again, Vader can be a very stubborn lad. So as it's been said before, it would boil down to a very even fight, almost that chess with swords.. perhaps mixed with some psychological warfare. So hey, it's almost impossible to tell who will win. ^_^"

Pedro, that's what im talking about,...excuse me if i take this train onto another track for a second by where in the hell did Luke even LEARN to fight with a lightsaber. Kenobi showed him how to block with it, and die,... and yoda showed him how to pickup things using the force,...but is Luke Skywalker pretty much self taught or what??? If anyone has any background knowledge i'd appreciate it.

Instead of using Actual Vader, why not use anakin in EP 3 (some rumours and stuff which are true)

Anakin

kicked ass taking jedi out 1 by 1, gradually taking injuries and getting bits and peices chopped off, making him weaker later on, it also makes him whore the force afterwards.

He felt presences in the force well and rembered them but coudl not tell exactly or what exactly it was

Qui-Gon Had very good blocknig skills but was more trained to take out droids and laser bolts.

Seems to be scared of the force and only using it for stupid things.

Uses force to tell quikcly what is going to happen anything something.

If it was a duel between qui-gonn and anakin, if anakin had continued to kick ass with his saber (aka killing machine) and notl ose any limbs like he did, i say anakin would win out right.

If it was battle between the force, Vader woudl probably laugh jinn off bespin, rember he brings balance to the force and has a mediclorian count higher than yoda.

i think it's just due to the different times the movies were made...

at that time, those slow fights would have been considered as nice but now nobody wants to see 'strong stance' fights. they wanna see sparks flying so fast and sabers moving around until you don't even know where it is but just see the trial of it due to the human eye. it's like the technology stuff someone said up there...

but anyway, exactly how powerful is qui-gon jinn? i didn't read the books but i roughly know from other people that he is a jedi master (and not all members in the jedi council are masters). but then again, someone told me you promote from knight to master once you train an apprentice. is he really that powerful? and yes i'd think he was more trained to fight lasers, basically non-saber holders. he may know very well how to fight in saber combat, but i'd think maul was probably his first actual fight since the sith was supposed to be extinct for 1000 years, or were secert until sidious came along, with maul. then again, qui-gon wasn't very shocked to fight saber combat and could tell something about maul after fighting him a little on naboo. so maybe he once fought a dark jedi long ago while under dooku?

then comes dooku...how powerful is he? sure he beat obi-wan and i assume obi-wan is one of the better jedis around, and he beat anakin but he was still quite lousy then, losing his saber so often.

all i know is that vader is supposed to be one of the most powerful jedi around. as for his immobility, there's always force speed and if his force powers are so great because of the mediclorien thing, then he might be able to get get a higher level of force speed than his opponents, in this case perhaps qui-gon such that it evens out. being on the dark side, if he has to fight for so long, he might decide to let his rage take over. if you wanna follow the game since it's the only place i think u can find statistics for it, then he moves 100% faster i think...or was it 33%? but really how powerful is he i duno. afterall, there's this exar kun guy and from what i hear, he is extremely powerful, like doing a saber throw to kill multiple jedis at a shot?

luke has to be powerful...inherited from his father, as well as not being crippled apart from his arm but vader also lost his arm, and later practically his whole body. also while the early original jedis learnt from young, perhaps 5 years old because anakin was supposed to be too old and i think he was...8? so they start at 5, anakin starts maybe at...10 perhaps...but luke starts at like...20 something. also back to that exar kun guy, he went to warp his consciouness into a temple when luke's academy of students came to fight him when he tried to take kyp rite? so i guess luke must be good since his academy doesn't start training at 5 i believe. plus while anakin/vader has proper jedi training young, then later good sith training, he knows the force well and had real training while luke was like a new generation jedi, not knowing all the secrets. so to get that far should make him one of the best too.

i don't think we can rate every one of them on a scale to find the best, but if possible i would surely want to know cause it'll be interesting to know who is supposedly better and stuff considering that episode I was made so much later.

for maul vs vader, if we go by stances in the game which soudns so weird since the plasma should be pretty much massless then maul is using light while vader is using strong. maul did a stab afterall if that counts (when he stabbed qui-gon and stab or rather backstab is only possible with light stance :) ), then vader would parry mauls saber or even cause it to go off balance and make maul kill himself with the other side of the saber.

students could outdo teachers (even if we assume the teachers don't lose due to older age) because otherwise, then as time passes, everything will be lost since no student can do better than their teacher...

of cuz qui-gon could have been maybe 50 when obi-wan was 25 when anakin(vader) was 10 when luke wasn't even around. but we can just take the original qui-gon vs the obi-wan in episode 2-3 vs the luke in ROTJ vs the vader in TESB.

Besides, vader was probably also trained in the sith.
