Hemi-Cuda Posted June 10, 2002 Share Posted June 10, 2002 when i first got JK2, it hooked me completly and took away all of my RA3 time (Rocket Arena 3, a mod for Quake 3). looking back, 1.02 was a very good version. sure any newbie could jump on a server and get a few kills, but you always knew who the truly good saberists were, as they had no trouble getting to the top of the scoreboard if they so desired. hell i didn't consider DFA a problem at all either. as soon as you got good enough, it was EASY to dodge the attack, and quickly kill the person since they were wide open 1.02 took skill, 1.03 does not. its just hack and slash and hope you hit someone. or if that fails, simply use the ol' backslash and thre you go, instant kill. 1.02 got me off of RA3 because it took skill to do well, which is what RA3 is all about. but now that 1.03 is out, and i've played it quite a bit, there is very little/no skill involved now, so its back to RA3 where newbies dont have a hope in hell and there are no cheap ways to score easy frags raven made a big mistake and patched the game too quickly. ask anyone who was a skilled saberist with 1.02, and they'll tell you DFA was no problem. raven didn't give the community enough time to truly get used to the game, as just as people finally were, bam, a new patch that completly changed the game if there ever is another patch, raven needs to put skill back into this game and take away all of the newbie gimmicks (backslash). a newbie should never be able to top the score in a server. its like that with all of the serious online games out there. a learning curve should be in place before you can instantly achieve a high score oh well. this message will probably be followed by a few "quit whining loser" replies, get lost in the backpages, and no one will care. i guess its back to RA3 while JK2 sits collecting more dust. i'm really regretting blowing the $70 bucks on this game Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Datheus Posted June 10, 2002 Share Posted June 10, 2002 Making a patch fix for 1.03 would pretty much be doing the same thing they've already done once... there's really nothing that can be done now, it's too late... I think that if 1.03 bothers someone SO much, they should either just stop playing, or mod the game, their have the sorce code. Otherwise, they need to shut the hell up You, played another game, thumbs up to you... But what can I say? RA3 is the single most hacked to death Quake 3 mod ever (thanks to the client side loading of a ever-so-easy-to-modify cgamex86.dll). I'm not saying you hack guy, but in case you have not noticed, about 60% of the players in there do. One of the funniest things to see is a "pro" RA3 railer playing on an OSP rail only server. For some reason their 90% accuracy always seems to drop, even though the weapons and physics are exactly the same... Nemesh, nopbot, shadebot, and the r_shownormals wall hack, these were all born right out of RA3. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Hemi-Cuda Posted June 11, 2002 Author Share Posted June 11, 2002 i really dont want to get in a big debate about Q3 in a jedi knight 2 forum, but people are so damm misinformed. cheating in RA3 is extremly LOW compared to most every other online game (CS, SOF2, SC, etc). i have yet to actually meet up against a cheater in RA3 as for why i play it, i hate vanilla Q3, which is basically what OSP is. i dont like the standard q3 maps, the same old ammo hoarding and map domination techniques. with RA3, there is no worry about ammo. its just pitting your skills against those of another person. plus the MP3 player is the shiznit as for JK2, i think the best thing raven or lucasarts could do would be to ASK id for suggestions. they've been through the patching process more than anyone (hell they invented it) so they know how to iron out the kinks better than anyone. they also dont quit until they are happy and the gamers are happy so what, raven phucked up with this patch. get 1.04 out, then start working on another patch, and have as many as needed to get the game to the optimal level Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
