Com Raven Posted June 13, 2002 Posted June 13, 2002 well, our D&D campaign so far consits mainly of crime investigations and a war between cults... in most cases, that meant 0-1 fight per session... D&D as the advantage of the best traditional campaign setting, the Fprgotten Realms...
Ascari Posted June 14, 2002 Posted June 14, 2002 NWN is going to be the thing to do untill SWG comes out AND DONT EVEN COMPARE THIS GAME TO DIABLO 2 !!! Diablo2 isnt an RPG, it's a hack and slash game, clickfest ! Now Never Winter Nights will dominate the sale charts untill SWG comes out ow right... South-Korea is playing! gotta watch Guus Hiddink in action guys!
RoyalGuard Posted June 14, 2002 Posted June 14, 2002 And well, my main 'thing' against D&D is the fact that it is so inflexible. All thieves are the same, all fighters the same, etc The 3rd Ed system drastically alters this, and also makes non-combat adventures possible. Give it a try before hammering it!
Gaalgoth Posted June 14, 2002 Author Posted June 14, 2002 Yeah, I know it's not another Diablo....but in looks it is alot like diablo and that was just a simple comparison. I know they're going to be alot different......You can't be an elven rogue/thief like i'm going to be in diablo
Lord Helmet Posted June 20, 2002 Posted June 20, 2002 i just got the game what is it? i didn't play it yet....my brother got it....so is it any good?
setsuko Posted June 20, 2002 Posted June 20, 2002 Hmmm... well, sounds like I have to take a look at the 3rd edition, then. From what I have heard before, and now, it seems to have bettered itself. After all, if even non-combat characters are playable in the new rules, something drastic must have been done! After all, since I'll play NWN, I'll get my chance to check out the new system.
Gaalgoth Posted June 21, 2002 Author Posted June 21, 2002 Well, NWN didn't quite live up to my expectations....the multiplayer seems a little, well, i guess hectic is teh best word. how about this, whenever any of you get the game lets all make a private multiplayer game and play together? That way we can play with people we already know and get a more personal feel.
RoyalGuard Posted June 21, 2002 Posted June 21, 2002 Good idea Gaalgoth, I'm getting it in the next couple of weeks, and I'll be testing out the MP with some friends over a LAN (I was going to try and convert a table-top campaign). We had lots of fun with Vampire Redemption this way, and that was a very poor game on its own merits. (the WOD MOD made it really). In terms of gameplay and single player involvement, better or worse than Baldur's Gate 2?
Gaalgoth Posted June 21, 2002 Author Posted June 21, 2002 I never played bg2. The gameplay is pretty good and single player is fun......multiplayer is just a little chaotic. I think the only reason I'm having problems with it is cause I'm still in teh diablo mentality....I'm not used to such low hitpoints =).
RoyalGuard Posted June 21, 2002 Posted June 21, 2002 I'm not used to such low hitpoints =). aahh, the plague of a first level character
Gaalgoth Posted June 21, 2002 Author Posted June 21, 2002 Yeah....but after flipping around I've decided on a human ranger. And I'm hooked now...the game is bad ass in single player. Get a couple of friends in for multi and I'm sure it will be awesome as well.
Lord Helmet Posted June 21, 2002 Posted June 21, 2002 all the game is IS diablo2/dungeon siege ! thats it...
Gaelin Masek Posted June 22, 2002 Posted June 22, 2002 Baldur's Gate 2 was an awsome game, a lot like Neverwinter. It comes out here on the 25th, I think, I'm definetly gonna get it. Torn between a Mage and a Ranger... Mages are pretty hard to get good I can tell you that and they have to be supported by Warrior characters.
RoyalGuard Posted June 23, 2002 Posted June 23, 2002 A find a cleric is always a good bet, armour and healing magic help you get through that tricky single-figure hitpoint stage....
Gaalgoth Posted June 23, 2002 Author Posted June 23, 2002 The problem in this game is that rangers aren't all taht great....track and stuff like that are useless so it would be better to be a fighter and call yourself a ranger.
Gaelin Masek Posted June 24, 2002 Posted June 24, 2002 Track? what is that? Doesn't anybody else think the name "Fighter" is a bit... crap. I mean why not, Warrior or Soldier or Swordsman or something! but not "Fighter".
Ewok Hunter Posted June 27, 2002 Posted June 27, 2002 Sorcerer w/ a few levels of monk or rouge to make the AC acceptable. sure you don't get the best spells but at least you can avoid some of the damage. I haven't attemted making a module yet; but if I do, I'll make one about the adventures of boo the giant space something.
setsuko Posted June 27, 2002 Posted June 27, 2002 Giant Space Hamster. Go for the eyes, Boo! Go for the eyes!
Ewok Hunter Posted June 28, 2002 Posted June 28, 2002 thanks setsuko. I wish there where prestige classes and some way to create more feats. we need leadership so we can have more than one henchman durring SP. if they ever release a expansion pack they should incorperate the epic level rules (book coming out this fall/ winter) and that series of general class type rules (eg song and shadow, or something like that). some of those high level abilitys in ToB would be really nice. of course then there would be cheese tactics wit hthe new multiclassing rules, that ability to get 10 attacks a round with the ability for all attacks to act like a sneak attack. oh well, I guess that's all for now.
