About half of the World's population are watching, Natty.

Australia were never in the World Cup, as they didn't qualify.

Portugal are out.

Italy are through.

The two favourites, Argentina and France, are both out.

England are through and play Denmark next.

Sweden are through and play Senegal, the surprise of the tournament, next.

Brazil are now 9/2 favourtes to win, then Italy and Germany with 9/4, then England with 11/4

yeah, brazil is really bad. in here we r having almost a civil war because of our defense :D

no really, u hear it everyday 5x at least. i mean, even i could go through that ppl. Lúcio is asleep, Edmilson is a foward and doesnt know (did u guys see him scoring agains Costa Rica? awsome, wasnt it?), Roque Junior is one of the most hated man in Brazil right now, and the other one doesnt even exit!

btw- australia got really close to classifing, but lost to uruguay 2-0

PS- CHECK http://lancenet.ig.com.br/especial/besteirol

just some translation for the little field drawings at the right:

1-English: changes depending on wich way the wind is blowing

2-Brasilian: no comments

3-Beligium: lose against themselves, no need for the other team

4-Argentinian: the main point in the game is not the ball, but the referee.

5-French: All possibilities where each player plays by himself.

Last time I checked in Australia the socceroos we're doing pretty well. Did we even go to the world cup? I think we must have coz I heard an interview with our Socceroo's coach on tripleM last week or the week before- I dunno, the night the World Cup started, on the way to the footy...uhhhh, I don't even know what his name is

All I know is the Italian community of Melbourne were all down at Lygon Street in the city the other night watching the game and there was a brawl or something coz the supporters of the team they lost too came down and rubbed it in. How funny :D

Ummmmmmm I think I'm the only person in Australia who isn't watching is- is that a good thing or a bad thing? I don't understand it  I really must be missing something- maybe I need to move to somewhere like Italy or France or the UK, a country that loves their soccer, maybe then I'll find out what the big fuss is all about

Natty. It will sound funny to you, but I am Italian and I don't give a damn about football! Tons of Italians don't give a damn about football! (the world cup is another story, as the olympics, america's sailing cup or whatever, I still cheer for my country and watch the games). But in general generalism :) is a bad abit, watch out.

this is how it works: CONMEBOL (the champioship that decides who goes to the world cup in south america) choses 4, and one gets the 5th place. From CONCACAF (North and Central America) 3 get through. From UEFA in Europe 13 get through (actually 14, but France was automatcally in since they won the last one). From AFC in Asia, 4 come out (usually 6, but Japan and Corea were in because they were hosting). From CAF (Africa) 5 come out. From OFC, just 1. This year, this one team was Australia. But the winner of OFC, to go to the WC has first to beat the team that got 5th in CONMEBOL. This year, it was Australia x Uruguay, but Australia lost 2-0. again australia ALMOST qualified, but they are out, just like the other 17 WC.

but Australia is 48th in the FIFA ranking, and i must say that is not bad

france is first, and brazil and argentina are in a tie in second place. but thats gonna change now that they are out and brazil is in.

COME TO BRAZIL!

Actually, WC is the most patriotic movement we have in brazil. but i think its kinda like an inferiority feeling deep inside cause our country sucks in so many sectors, that we have to b best at SOMETHING :D

actually, i'm not a big footy fan myself, only ever watch the world cup (and i live in england). there's nothing wrong with not caring about it, it just makes us the kind of people who are sure there is something out there more important than football. ;)

Hey, don't be so surprised, we beat Argentina 1-0 and Germany 5-1...

Actaully, I was at my friend's house for the Denmark game, and for the first goal, my mate's little borther said "Ferdinand, back post", and Ferdinand scored at the back post, and I was saying in the 40th minute that we should take off Emile Heskey and put on our 3rd choice goalkeeper instead, and then in the 44th minute, Heskey scored from outside the box...

It's a funny old game.

I'm sorry, that is definatly way more important than the world cup.

exactly what i meant, no really. so to those who do follow this funny old game, how far do you think england is going to get based on their performance so far?
