Red Imperial Guards

Here's the info from official site.

Hopefully Lucas will write a scene of them fighting or at least training for Episode III, so that they won't be remembered only as "those red guys hanging around Emperor". This would be the last chance to show that they actually were elite soldiers. :D

Hahaha! The Star Wars movies bombed? Fair enough, didn't realise $345 Million US for The Phantom Menace was a failure, nor the $240 Million or so that is currently in the bank for Attack of the Clones was classified as a failure. Over $600 million, well over half a billion dollars for two movies is not what I would call a failure. If the three prequel movies bring in close to $1 Billion US, then would you still call them a failure? No doubt many still will................................................

Does it really matter as to why there are Red Imperial Gaurds? Is this just catering to the fanboy to let people know what they do? Personally, would only take away time to develop the plot of bringing in Vader, and showing the continuing building of the Empire, and hopefully the development of the Rebel Alliance.....

It's the simple truth. There couldn't be an evil emporer, Lord of the Imperial Realm, the most powerful man to have ever existed and 'his pals from down the pub' . He made them put on the red costumes to make them look hard. They wore log sleeves and tunic to cover the pints of beer and cigars. If you look at the 'weapons' they carry, you can see that they are just bongs with black paint on.

Don't they have sexual relations with Darth Vador?

Oh, that's why George cutted the scene from RotJ where Vader grips one of the guards! He must have been thinking that "if I leave it into the movie, people are going to believe that they had an affair and Vader thought this guy was cheating on him, so I better take it out. Who knows what it can do to the minds of those little children!"

Going by the graphic novel, Crimson Empire, and th Zahn Duology (spectre of the past and vision of the future) the Royal Guard are very, very hard!

Hence me adopting the avatar. It would be nice to see them do stuff in ep3, it wouldn't have to be much, just them fighting in the background like the Jedi in Ep2...

Force pikes are meant to be used in places where you wouldn't use or can't have a blaster, such as on a starship, or the imperial palace. A force pike is basically a pike, a spear like weapon, except you don't throw it. It's a vibro weapon, meaning the blade/point has a device that causes it to vibrate fast enough to pierce more easily. It can also function as a stun baton that can be set to deliver a stunning or lethal jolt of electricity.

i wouldn't think so...

after breaking enough defences, let's say they get in with a blatser and face these pike holders, i think the blaster guys will be able to shoot them down pretty easy...

even if they had 'jedi' instincts and can dodge the fire, it's no deflecting so they're basically not guarding...the emperor would be left alone to use his powers...the guards are useless !

...maybe their pike can generate power or electricity or something at the end to aim and fire...uh...maybe...

You can see Captain Tarpals using Force pike on Jar Jar in TPM, so that is only time so far that we have seen it in use in the movies.

BTW, if we presume that Royal guards ARE elite soldiers and know very well how to use different weapons, why did they then choose Force pike over others available to them? Because they are at the same time elegant AND deadly in right hands! Would you really believe that if Emperor doubted their ability to use them even a second that he would still let his PERSONAL guards keep them? I don' t think so! :D
