America's Army

The U.S. Army today unveiled America's Army, an innovative, realistic computer game providing civilians with an inside perspective and a virtual role in today’s premiere land force, the U.S. Army. America’s Army players will experience soldiering in a state-of-the-art new manner.

The America’s Army game blends two vivid simulations: Soldiers, a role-playing portion in which players navigate life’s challenges to achieve goals, and a first-person action game, called Operations.

Developed by the U.S. Army and a world-class team of Department of Defense experts in simulations and virtual environments, America's Army will be available in August. The Army will distribute America’s Army for *free* in response to requests at America's Army and GoArmy.com, through distribution partners that include leading computer game magazines, at Army events, at recruiting stations, and through internet download. The game is rated “T” for Teen by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board.

Anticipating large-scale distribution this summer, the Army unveiled the game at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), the computer and video games industry’s major convention in Los Angeles.

OFP is already there for me.

but this "Free" thing sounds interesting. You sure there wasn't a star (*) next to the word "Free"?

Free*

* for only 69.99 bucks!

Seriously, if it is free I'm sure you'd have to fill out an online "Sell your Soul to the Government and Join the US Army" form before being able to play the game.

Well, it's brilliant IMHO if it's what it sounds like. Even a person like me, having about a 1% interest in joining the military, would definitelly get a free game that looks to be a near-accurate depiction of US military operations, with little hesitation.

(And being 17, I think I fall into the targeted age range...)

Yep free. I pre-ordered it while posting the topic. You have to be in the US to pre-order though. Once released it will be available for everyone to download.

It will be constantly updated over the years(vehicles, weapons, single player)

Its currently an MP game. i think its going to be released and later have other features added(Vehicles, SP).

I'm never going to join the Army. I'm goin for the Marines!

The game(s) are pure propaganda.

E3-The 101st Airborne rappelling.

I think ingame you have to get through basic then schooling(Airborne, Sniper, Ranger)

Its probably gonna be like US Military equipment-Extremely well made.

Hee!

The motion blur on the bottom guy makes it look like he's falling.

And the other guy's facial expression isn't helping.

DISCLAIMER: I mean no derision or mockery of the brave men and women of the US Armed Forces, or any US citizen. It just struck me as a particularly funny visual.

 You know, now that you mentioned it, the top guy seems to be thinking something like:

"Ooooh sh*t." or "This can't be good..." or "America's Funniest Home Videos?" or "?"

Same Disclaimer applies here.

Flight Instructor: And what makes you think your up to it BOY ?!

New Recruit: I finished "F-22 Raptor" in Hard mode and without using any cheats or losing any crafts, SIR !

Flight Instructor: Give this MAN a Fighter, NOW!

Then in the heat of battle our young recruit has become a Top Gun Pilot in record time:

Radio Message: Prepare to engage the enemy Alpha 1. Over.

Top Gun Pilot: hum, roger that but I'd like to save my stat before, over.

It's not actually FREE smartyguys, but its prepaid for, since I hav ea job, I pay taxes, hence I have already paid for the game. See how that works out? As long as it is better than the last DoD simulation gone game RealWar, but just from the screens it appears to be. I am just going to go to the recruitment center to get one I guess, and get asked to join the Army.

What makes you think that yo pay for it through taxes? There is no actual proof of it unless they release something to the press saying that the 1 trillion people in the US are each paying $5 for it.

Its so free, they encourage the normally illegal reproduction of it.

uh, you pay taxes. they got into a huge pile of money. huge pile gets divided up. DOD gets a monstrous amount (it was up to around 60% not too long ago).

In theory, 60% of the money you pay in taxes goes to the DOD.

America's Army cost several million to make. Using a random number and lots of guessing and implying, America's Army cost me 9 cents.

idiot.
