AOTC complete score petition

If you haven't heard about this yet, there's a petition to get Sony classical to release complete score of AOTC. This would mean complete in a way John Williams composed it originally for the movie and NOT the way it was "hacked" and edited for it.

I'm not personally going to criticize George Lucas' decision to reject some parts of Williams' original score and replace them with musical cues taken from TPM soundtrack(most of them can be heard during arena battle, so they may go unnoticed easily), BUT as a fan of John Williams I DO wanna hear how he composed those scenes originally.

Who knows, maybe if people start sending these petition mails rapidly, even Lucas might hear about it and reconsider going back and edit some bits of missing music back into the movie for its release on video/DVD. Of course this is big IF and most likely, we will have to get used to those edits he made as we got used to "furious" edits in TPM.

No need to make a petition, knowing Lucas, it is only a matter of time before a full AOTC OST is released. Remember TPM ^.^ Within a year after the first OSTs release the full OST was released.

BUT, Ultimate Edition was the score AS it was heard in the movie and NOT the way John Williams composed it originally; it would have been nice, if they had at least included alternative/unrealeased versions of different themes and cues. Original version of Duel of the Fates, for example, was absent during the movie(you can hear some bits of it in Episode 1: Racer) and instead Lucas used concert version that Williams didn't exactly intend for the movie(you can however hear it entirily during the end credits with little alterations). He then had to make all those custom fades and loops there to fit it in, which is why some fans can't stand those edits; it doesn't "flow" naturally like it should, but instead you hear some parts here and there. Even one time you can hear Anakin's theme during the scene where Jar Jar falls off, while Captain Tarpals tries to pull him away from AAT, and Anakin is nowhere to be seen.

Those were only few examples, when you let director to take composer's place just for sec. If you wanna defend Lucas' own music edits in TPM, then at least they were from the same movie, while in AOTC some bits are taken from other episode(okey, I admit that RotJ, for example, also had tracked music from ANH, so that's nothing new, but personally I think those were much more subtle edits).

Again, I have to say that most of the time edits aren't noticable for those, who haven't memorized every track from TPM Ultimate Edition or doesn't own AOTC score, but there are few places where they jump out straight from the movie like during the scene where Anakin and Padme land to the Geonosis and enter the building: it's long intro section taken from the beginning of the TPM, where Republic cruiser makes it way to the Trade Federation station. One other example is Yoda's theme which can be heard briefly when Anakin is making his way through droid assembly line(once again, Yoda is nowhere to be seen).

So, I finally come to conclusion: I'm sure that there WILL be full score released within a year or so, BUT will it include alternative and/or unreleased music, I don't know. The point is that when they released Ultimate Edition stating that "here at least is every note of the original music that John Williams composed for Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace", it simply wasn't true and later on one person from Lucas Licensing had to apologize whole mix up. It would be too stupid to even try pull off something similar this time, but instead they could do as a favor and release something similar like those awesome Special Edition soundtracks. Those had everything that a John Williams fan could ask for(let's however forget those original ewok songs, okey?). :D

Perhaps we'll get 3 editions ... the current single CD, the 'Ultimate Edition' around the time of the DVD which would be the movie cuts, and finally the 'Director's Cut' which would be William's version. That would be later, so they could get even more money. Who knows ... maybe they could innovate a 'DVD Soundtrack', which would play the soundtrack while also showing clips and pictures (kind of like a 2.5 hour music video).

hrrmm..well Finnson,

You're right about the TPM Ultimate Edition, and I did notice those splended other bits of Duel of the Fates in Epi. I : Racer, shame that Lucas didn't include them, some of them seem really fitting.

I did notice the re-used music in AotC when Padme and Anakin landed on Geonosis. heh, shame on you Lucas.

And I completely agree, if we'd get the prequal movie's equivilants of the Special Edition soundtracks I'd be a very happy lad.
