XERXES
RANT ALL YOU WANT HERE! but to get started, here is how i feel about star trek. Every Star Trek episode seems to be the same, they start off with a star date thing...and then either a crew member gets lost on some random planet that happens to have hostile things on it. Some hostile organisim gets on board the ship and goes nuts. Or some alien fleet zaps their ship with their oversize laser pointer and then they show the inside of the ship, with the peple all falling all over the place. ( i wonder how difficult it really is to put a seatbelt-like device on those chairs)

Zindell
Extremly difficult. Yes the Redshirts in the original star trek always died. Yes Kirk, Sulu , Spock and ensign Fu. would go down to the planet. Fu in his bright redshirt would suddenly be killed. Next Episode: Kirk, Sulu , Spock and ensign Su, would go down to the planet. Su in his bright redshirt would suddenly be killed. The original star trek was pretty amusing that way.

MasterD-LeyAmas
Star Trek is the soap opera of the sci-fi world. As much as trekkies (I used to be one) hate to admit it, it is. Sure, I liked it because they have cool starships, and teleporters, and every other cool technology they have; but when it came down to it, it's just a sci-fi soap. In order to be a trekkie, you have to get hooked on the story, learn what has happened before the point that you got into it, and then watch every week to see what happens next. And, what's happening in the story is only relevent to you and other people who watch the same show. Just a like a soap. Granted, soap operas are crap, and Star Trek is okay, but the way it operates is all the same. And besides, I saw one or two blonde-haired, blue eyed security guys die in a couple of episodes. Zindell
Ah but all series tv shows are like that, Soap operas aren't weekly and thats what is sad about them. people watch them daily to find out what happens
MasterD-LeyAmas
AH, But cannot you watch Drew Carey, Seinfeld, or Simpsons without knowing what has happened before, and still get some entertainment value out of it???
MasterD-LeyAmas
Ask someone who has never seen Star Trek before to watch Star Trek, and 4 times out of 5 says they won't like it.
XERXES
quite interesting. It does make sense to call it the "sci-fi soap opera" But its a TV series so i guess it deserves that. BTW, the movies werent THAT bad...just the TV shows are all too similar.
obi
I like Trek and Wars equal. And for the person who sad that Trek was the "Soap Opera of Sci-fi" Did you by any chance watch Star Wars AOTC ? So what if star trek has some plot repeaters in its shows. Wars does too. ie: Luke BLows up a Death star, His father blows up a droid control center. An old mentor dies in episode IV(Ben) and old mentor dies in episode 1(Qui-gon) (see my point?) However, like I said, I like um both.
Lime-Light
ST is more thoughtfull....er, was (Gene is dead), but SW is more entertaining, by far. I grew up with both, but SW wins, even though I pretty much hate the prequels.

Dough with Fish
I for one like Star Trek better. This is because of that absolute KICK ASS Deep Space Nine, especially the Dominion War. I mean come on, it had a kick-ass story, and went against the many of the norms in Star Trek. For starters, the Romulans and the Klingons WORKED TOGTHER in this. Another was Earth was succesfuly attacked on numerous occasions, and even San Fran was hit, and practically taken out. And the Defiant was destroyed (although they re-named another ship of the same class the Defiant). And there is no better villan than Dukat PERIOD. That, and the space battles just plain kicked ass.
