Galactik
My friend and I live about 10min from each other. We both have broadband internet. I am running a Athlon 2000+xp system. He is runnin a slower machine, so I host the games. We are trying to play online, with eachother against the computer. Anyways, I select an Internet game, give him my IP and he connects. However, when we play there is SERIOUS lag. We both turn of MSN, Anti-Virus and such, but still the lag persists. Should we be using a different multiplayer choice besides Internet, and how can we get rid of the lag. I figured that since I have the faster machine, there would be no lag, but this isnt what is happeneing. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We normally play on large maps, the 2 of us vs 2 comps. Thanx.
Guest DarthMaulUK
Do you have any idea of his internet connection? Battlegrounds suffers from lag alot with slower modems. Playing on larger maps won't help either. Also, when you play with the computer, the computer lags like crazy. Try a 1v1 against each other first to test things out but I think the problem will be the computer opponent. How many do you have? DMUK
TheMadDoofer
Another thing is that the game runs as fast as the slowest player. Good thing I have cable.
Kryllith
Does it lag at the outset of only later in the game? High population games can lag a fair bit even in single player... Kryllith
Galactik
Like I said, we are only 3km from eachother and we are BOTH runnin broadband internet connections We normally play with 2 computer AI and 200 pop maps.
Kryllith
I got hit with heavy lag on a single player game against all 7 opponents (giant map) . After I'd brought them down to 5 (and populations were getting rather high) the lag kicked in and basically stayed for the rest of the game. If you're not having lag problems when you begin, then it's probably population and/or map size that's causing the problem. If you're starting out with bad lag though, you might want to talk to your IPS and see what's holding you guys up. Kryllith
Guest DarthMaulUK
Like I have said. If you play against the computer, it WILL lag. I haven't a clue why, it's just the way it is. DMUK
Compa_Mighty
Don't play multi against and/or with comps. That should help a lot.
WolfmanNCSU
If you aren't having lag then its probably just some packet loss then. I have not done much multi play with this game, but I heard that people experience simular probs when playing comp stomps and such. Maybe you could try asking around some in the zone chat rooms and see if others are experiencing the same and how they get around it to resolve it.
