Tiran Dev
The two times Luke faced his father,...the first time in Cloud city he was clearly beated badly,...but the next time before the emperor he only succeeded defeating vader when vader taunted him by threatening his sister, Leia. Luke really didn't defeat Vader by controlling his anger at all, which is what Yoda and Ben had told him to watch for. He lunged out screaming and hacked hif father down,..cutting off his hand. That was clearly his will giving in to his anger. I have a theory that a jedi's power only can be exherted to its murderous capabilities with the help of anger,...agression,...the dark side. ANyone else follow my logic here???
Tyrion
That, and Vader's fatherly compassion prob made him fight worst than in Bespin.
Lime-Light
But luke chucked his ligtsaber afterwards and told the old fart to screw off. He beat Vader and controlled himself too. My hero.
BlackDove
Look at his face.....he was just about to cross to the Dark Side when he saw Vader's hand and that reminded him that they are connected...
Tiran Dev
Good thought,...but i think the same rule applied for Obi-Wan when Maul impaled Qui-GOn,...his anger drove him beyond his limits,...Lucas opens so many ends to his movies it rediculous
Lime-Light
bah, without anger and the darkside, what is there to SW? It makes it more than a pretty slideshow, so leave Lucas alone for at least getting that right.
Tiran Dev
SSc kal el,..so you agree with my theory?? i think it makes some sense Yeah Luke's face was liek Anakins after he slaughtered those Tuskan raiders in EPII
Nebelwerfer_
yah, the emperor said "your hate has made you powerfull, now fullfil your destiny and take ..... blah blah..." but pay special attention to the first part. Luke probly wouldnt have been able to defeat vader without the dark side, and he probly would have turned to the dark side for good if he hadn't had looked at both of their robotic hands.( I don't know how that specifically made sense) but it sounds reasonable. Now as for Obi wan in TPM, I dont think he was quite as mad as luke at the end of ROTJ, true he may have used a little of the dark side, but it wasn't enough to defeat darth maul at first, only enough to get in a cheap shot which didnt' make sense. (I timed it and darth maul had about 3 seconds to watch obi wan jump up and force pull qui gons saber and then cut him in half.)
MasterD-LeyAmas
Tiran Dev, you are right. As a rule, a Jedi does not murder. If a Jedi must kill in self defense, it is acceptable, but as in both the case of Obi-Wan at the end of Ep1, and Luke at the end of RotJ, they did let themselves be taken by their anger just enough to do what they where compelled to do. Yet both also managed to calm themselves after they realized that they were letting their emotions get to them. Obi wan, as you can see in Ep2, did not fight nearly as aggressively as he did in Ep1, and Luke visably calmed himself, and threw his lightsaber aside. Zindell
Yes anger seems to be the key to winning a lightsaber battle.
