setsuko
Well, I've seen the same space fighting trailers, and I can say that it is foolish to make any suggestions right now on how it works. All you saw was practically a x-wing fooling around. Sure, it looked intuitive and all, but I would not analyze it as far as gameplay goes. After all, the usual reply from the devs on the issue is a "Eeeh... hmmm... well, either we don't know, or we can't tell you!" But I agree, it looked like it flew sort of like a usual space sim, at least. That means that practicing a bit beforehand would yield some nice skillz when the expansion is finally released. Now, if they would only stop this foolish 'mouse control' idea and let me use a joystick...

Ride
Thats just sad, real sad! Anyway, they would almost have to allow us to use joysticks. If they dont, they will get never ending bitching and complaining from members. So, I would like it to be like Rogue Squadron for the PC. Where you can be in the cockpit or the panned out veiw. I think that would be the best. I think they will probably make it real life like, so it will be like Microsoft Flight Simulator, with checklists and all that. I just played the demo for X-wing Alliance and I dont really like it because my joystick isn't configured for it. Anyway, back to the veiws. Since the FAQ said that there will be AT-AT's, then I can assume that it will be more like looking out a window kind of.
Norin Radd
I wouldn't mind zipping around the galaxy. That is one of the things that makes this game so appealling to begin with. I'll fly anything, though I would prefer something fast and manueverable. The only downside is that we will have to wait for the space flight expansion pack to go to other planets. DudEhead
I'd prefer to have joystick control in combat, because the mouse thingie is so cheap...
bothanjedi
Yesm, joysticks all the way, it just takes far too much time to kill something not that it is hard for someone of my calliber, but it is jut too time consuming to move, pick up the mouse and keep doing that, I mean it's pointless. DudEhead
has anyone said this to the devs yet? maybe they just don't know we feel about it that way...
setsuko
Nah. I guess it will be mouse only. Again, they want it to be approachable for people who don't consider themselves 'gamers'. Advanced space simulations with lots of controls, switches, shield configurations and weapons = fun. Advanced space simulations with lots of controls, switches, shield configurations and weapons != easy to grasp for people who are more familiar to SIMs than Wing Commander. Too bad I guess us gamers have be the casualty in this battle. But yeah, there is no possible way to get the same feeling to a flight sim with a mouse or a joypad as you have with a big, sturdy joystick. Preferably one with a metal base. Ride
Who said they couldn't have both? I mean, for something like a big transporter, the only person who needs a joystick is the pilot, not the other people who are maintaining the ship. Same with things like AT-AT's. There are about 5 people who pilot the whole thing, but the only people who would need to accually need a joystick are the pilots or the gunman. Remember, this game is going to be like real life. I want to/am going to pilot the AT-ST, with someone running the gun. I am going to save up my money for a B-wing or Y-Wing(maybe both)and have it stored somewhere. Anyway, to pilot something like that needs the android, which people will need to get as "pets" or whatever and have them put in there and all that. So, they will have both most likely because if they dont, I will bitch daily until they change it.............
setsuko
I wish I could be as confident as you are about it. Though, sadly, I can't.
RoyalGuard
First up, Redwing, ROTFLMAOWMSS... I hadn't seen that in a while, thanks for reminding me of it... Wraith 8, thanks for posting our first recruitment add (the one that got me to join up incidentally ) As for flight control, I would prefer it if it were possible to choose the level of your interface - advanced, moderate or 'I'm not a gamer and I thought that the term joystick was an innuendo!' Your character still effects how well you fly - in advanced mode (XWA style) it affects responsiveness, weapon and sheild recharge etc., at the basic, the AI flies for you and you perhaps just shoot things (anyone remember Rebel Assault? You have my condolences...) and the most basic ones you just watch... Of course I haven't considered any programming/bandwidth/interface problems posed by that method, but if it could work that way it would be best. bothanjedi
Yeah, that's a good point, though I think that with the joystick it will be better and easier to control, though it might be a little choppy for those of us with minimal net connections if it is to be real time battle. JekRendar
*deep sigh* What is it with all the NAIVE people in these forums. "Join our fighter, blah, blah, blah..." Come on folks the chance of vehicles getting into the intial release (as in JUST speeders ans swoops) is unlikely plus the SE won't come out for another...year after. I'm not flaming you, I'm just pointing out your flauts.
setsuko
Calm down, Jek. What's the problem with a little bit of dreaming? Hell, It's quite a few month until the release, and we are already discussing eventual PA towns! Isn't that just as farfetched as a fighting squad? If we reasoned like that, all SWG discussions are irrelevant until we have the game in our filthy little paws. Tip: when people talk about things that annoy you, take a pause. Count to ten. Then ignore that thread. That's how I did with all the jedi and boba fett threads. It works, and it makes the forums a much more pleasant place to stay at. So please, don't bash people for being dreamers. That's why we're all here, so long before the release, right?
bothanjedi
Yeah, really, if you don't agree with a group's decision then why don't you just ignore it and move on instead of wasting your time and get on with things that are more worth while. I didn't get to buy my souped up AT-ST. It costs alot more than I thought, plus I have to wait a whole year! Gee, Jek was right the whole time, I wonder why we never listened?
