I believe by Sith Lord they mean Lords of the Sith's teachings. If I remember right, the Sith were a species, but they documented all sorts of evil ways to use the Force or whatnot. People found thier books later & learned how to do all that.. hence they became Sith Lords.

Yes, thousands of years before Episode I, the Sith were an insectoid-like race who were adept with the Dark side of the Force. The Sith were kind of Satanic, you could say, and loved violence and the like. They lived a medieval-like society on a planet called Korriban, I think, until a dark Jedi, who was banished from the Jedi Order, landed there. The Sith were impressed with the Jedi's knowledge and technology, and he became the Dark Lord of the Sith, the leader of the planet.

Time passed, and Humans and Sith interbreeded until only Human was left. (or something like that, I haven't read these comics.) Then, the Jedi and the Sith engaged in war. The Sith lost, and a lot to blame was because of political infighting. Meaning, everyone was fighting for the title of Dark Lord. Soon, all the Sith were dead except for Darth Bane. He learned from this mistake and made a new practice that the Sith culture could survive only if there were two: a master and an apprentice. The apprentice would become the master, and the cycle would continue. This was to continue until the Sith could figure out how to destroy the Jedi and have revenge.

As for how Darth Sidious became a Sith Lord or who his master was is yet to be explained. Does that answer your question?

i may be wrong about this but im pretty sure the sith didnt use the force, it was magic and somewhat similar in ways but not the force. the forceuser/s that arrive on the planet adopted the sith magics into force usage and became well.... evil, they were then much more powerful than the species of the sith so they were the lords of the sith

I'm under the impression that in the Star Wars universe, magic and the Force are one and the same. In Sith society, the terms magic and Force are just referring to the same thing. The only reason magic is called the Force is because magic is the unexplained. However, because the Jedi have an in-depth knowledge of "magic," the term no longer applies. Confused, yet?
