Okay, I know I haven't updated the Farscape skins in a while, so I thought I'd just let everyone know what's going on.

The main reason I haven't posted anything is because most of the work I've done on them lately is enhancing small details, which you'd probably miss unless you were looking for them.

I'm also running into the modeling problem. While some of them work to an extent, many of the characters simply can't be done with the existing models.

Now, I was planning on waiting to release a skin pack with 5-6 skins in it, Farscape Skin Pack, but I know some of you have been just itching to get your hands on some Farscape skins. So here's my question,...

Should I release the Farscape skins separately, one by one, or hold off until I have a handful of them complete, then release them as a skin pack?

All at one time. If you do them one by one, many servers will have had just one or two skins installed, rather than all of them. Making them into a pack assures that anyone who downloads it has ALL the skins.

As much as I might like to have these skins as soon as possible, I agree with Emon. Make sure people will see the whole squad, not just one or two of 'em!

All those little tweaks and details will just make them that much better, too!

Ask the Yoda guy.... He's 'shrunk' his Yoda model to the proper size, hasn't he? He'd know.

Supplemental: And thinking about it, since Scarrens have that whole Death-Breath and Destructo-Digit thing going on, combined with one using a sort of laser blade thing to cut Maltese Crichton's head off, they'll fit right in.

Hey. Don't even worry about putting a scarren skin on Desann.

I just finished making that player model today. All I need to do

now is get the pic of it up when mcowart gets back. Or if any of

you have a website that I can host the pic on, I can get it right

now. ;)

Hey Hapslash you think you can skin the model for me? I can't

skin at all. Since you're an excellent skinner you could make my

Scarren model look even cooler. :D

and another thing, I think it would be a great idea if someone

made a mod where force lightning gets replaced with Scarren

heat torture. That would be totally cool!

Thanks man! You're the best! I'll get it to you right away! :D

Oh yeah I was wondering what kind of modeling program you

use. I use 3ds Max 4 to make my models so I usually keep the

models in .3ds and .max file formats. But I do have an .md3

exporter for 3ds Max 4 so I could get it in an md3 formatted

file. You could try exporting it to glm that way maybe by using

the md3 view program.

And about the maps. When I was reading this thread I saw

Relfexive talk about putting a Scarren skin on Desann. So instead

of building totally new arms I used Desann's arms. You shouldn't

have any trouble reskinning the arms and hands. everything

besides the hips, legs, arms, and hands are completely custom.

The custom torso I made also has it's own uvw map I've unwrapped for it. All you have to do there is just make the texture. I didn't unwrap the head though. That seemed just way

too hard to do. I may have to find someone else to skin map the

head. The robe tunic thing only needs a correct robe looking

texture put on it. I've tried that out and it works just fine.

Oh and Desann's arms were reshaped some so they would look

like a Scarren's arms. I reshaped the pad thing on the right arm

to look like the lightsaber-like-cutting-thing used in that one

episode to cut off maltese Crichtons head.

Wew, that was quite a lot to say on one reply. Well, hope this

helped you out a little bit hapslash.

Can you send me a pic so I can see what it looks like?

I don't actually have any modeling programs,... the closest thing I have to one is the modview released in the JKII editing tools. It's the only way I know how to make the skins and it only accepts the glm format.

I knew somebody who tried modeling with gmax, he kept having problems with the program crashing, and he's got a lot nicer computer than I do,... He did mention about maybe trying some new stuff out not too long ago, I should see if he can get anything working,...

That's quite true HapSlash. You really don't need to make any

of the models. I can make most of the models. I'm gonna try to

make Scorpius as well.

You could still try to learn unwrapping the models for us modelers

Hap. That would be great skill to go with your great skinning

talent. If GMAX is anything like 3DS MAX 4, you can do the unwrapping and skinning there. ;)

Oh yeah I know you can get Milkshape 3d for about 20 bucks or

something like that. You can get plugins for it that import md3

and glm formatted files. You can export those files to 3ds or

whatever file format GMAX can read from there.

(NOTE: Trial version of Milkshape 3d is available as well for you

to get started with it.)
