I'm just curious how many of you are console gamers and which consoles you guys prefer.

I'm a console gamer first and PC gamer second.

I actually might be a PC gamer first if it were not for my crappy computer and crappy connection =P

btw, Gamecube and PS2 r0x0r j00r b0x0r =)

I'm hoping to get some discussion here, but I don't know the kind of respsonse I'll get from a PC game forum, but I'm hopeful =)

So what say you?

I'm all PC.

Well, if you are referring specifically my computer, then I would take an X-box, because my computer sucks. I can't even play Quake II (that's right, 2, don't even bring up 3 or JKII) in full-screen.

But, there's a general stereotype in my head that consolers are dumb and stupid (don't flame me, you'll see why.) At my school, I'm pretty much the only PC gamer out there. I mention JKII, and everyone is like, what? Even if I say "Half-Life" or "Counter-Strike," nobody knows what I'm talking about. Some have never even heard of Doom.

However, if I say Grand Theft Auto III or Final Fantasy X, everyone starts clicking and a huge conversation starts up. Look, these people will never understand "mod," "install," "DirectX," "ping," or any of the other usual PC game terms. They think that any console ports of PC games were and only are for console (meaning they think Max Payne, or was made for and only for PS2. Or even that Starcraft was made for N64.) Networking consoles together is a totally new concept. I asked this one guy about PC's and he was like, "No stupid-ass computer can top the graphics of a PS2. It's imposssible!"

And I would never vote for Game Boy. Sure, it's portable, but please! The screen is so SMALL!

In my opinion, consoles are toys.

I agree that consoles aren't as good as a computer, but theres some games that are only on specific consoles and if they do come to pc it's alot later.

Ahem. Halo is a PC title. It was intended to be a PC title, and will be a PC title. Same goes for GTA3 for that matter, although Rockstar has always made Playstation ports for GTA games. Both GTA and Halo were originally going to be for PC, but got changed to consoles after the big 3 started buying up games for the release of the new console generation.

Consoles have one and only one advantage over PCs. That is if you buy a console game for your console system it will work all the time (unless broken).

With PCs you have to worry about; a) OS version or even which OS the game needs to run on, b) hardware requirements, such as how much RAM, how fast a processor, power of your 3D accelerator, comapatibility with your controllers, c) if your system is having any problems like a faulty piece of hardware, a hardware/software conflict, a software conflict (such as ani-virus software and an game running at the same time) or a viral infection and d) how much room you have on your machine.

That said, games on PCs are generally superior in terms of play features, size and scope of the game, the ability to customize control, and until recently, graphics.

But for this old fart, I'm thinking more and more strongly of just going and getting a console for the sake of ease of use. Not to mention the fact that less and less innovative games are being produced for the PC. My old favorite, space ship sims, have really fallen by the wayside... I played a demo of Rogue Squadron II on the Gamecube and was floored by the gameplay...

PC's can put out MUCH better graphics than consoles. Look at it this way: The graphics of a PC game are based on how acceptable a game can look on the minimum PC, which is around a P500, 64MB RAM, 16MB 3d card. This is so all the poor boys (me included) can play the latest games. If you look at a midrange system, Geforce3, 1.5gig, 256MB RAM, with that kind of power, (2-3 times of a PS2) a PC can put out much nicer graphics.

And on top of that, a PC has a hard drive and consoles (except Xbox) dont, which I see as a HUGE downfall.

Plus, PC's have a couple more uses than gaming :D .

Your right. Microsoft is just hoarding Halo so more people will buy the XBox.
