Mace Windu and his lightsaber.

Darth Vader 421

Why, in Episode I, Mace Windu has a blue lightsaber with a really cool handle and suddenly changes to a purple blade and quite frankly rubbish handle in Episode II?

Plus, why does Obi-Wan use Adi Gallia's lightsaber against Count Dooku when she survives the battle of Geonosis?

Also, Mace Windu's blue lightsaber from Episode I appears in the claw of Plo Koon! I thought he had an orange blade!

This is all very confusing. :edeaths:

Could anyone clear it up for me? :vadar:

Thank you! :duel:

Mace Windu never ignited his saber in Episode I. Though I know he constructed a new saber between Episode I and Episode II, I think the blade was always purple. I can't find any evidence to the contrary. If I'm wrong, somebody say so.:D

As far as Obi-Wan not using his own saber. When he was captured on Geonosis, his saber was confiscated and destroyed on orders from Count Dooku. If you remember, during the Geonosian arena battle, a Jedi throws a saber to Anakin and Obi-Wan, so neither of them were using their own. Anakin's was damaged in the droid factory.

"Not again. Obi-Wan is going to kill me".:D

I think the Jedi should take out insurance on Anakin's and Obi-Wan's sabers. LOL!:D

I don't know about in the movies themselves, but I seem to recall a discussion of promotional shots where Mace was holding someone elses' saber. I think this was he didn't actually have a saber of his own (Samuel L. Jackson didn't have one, that is)

Actually, this has been brought up before and to solve this puzzle we must rely on the comics. The hilt that Windu carries in Episode I apparently belonged to a fellow Jedi master who was a very close friend of Windu. There's some ceremony type thing where two close Jedi Masters trade sabers for some period of time, then eventually return them. There is a comic that shows this trade off between Mace Windu and _________(If anyone knows his name, feel free to tell me and I'll fill it in...) . Someone posted a link to a scan of this page and it kinda solved the issue... As for Koon and Gallia's sabers, we never see them ignited and they may have merely picked up hilts from fallen Jedi. According to the Hasbro figure, I believe, Adi Gallia's saber is red. I could be wrong though... I kinda quit when I realized it would be impossible to have every single figure...

someone already did a thread about this and backed it up with detailed pictures . this was also addressed in a comic book. I think mace traded lightsabers with another jedi as some kind of friendship tradition. you might want to search through the old threads to find this one darth vader 421

This is from Starwars.com:

Q. I recently saw the picture of Mace Windu and his new lightsaber in the Insider. Why is it different from the blue lightsaber he had for Episode I? And what's the story about his lightsaber changing?

A. This is the third lightsaber Mace Windu has been seen bearing since the introduction of his character. His latest blade can easily be explained by the amount of time which passes in between episodes -- surely in the ten years that pass between The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, an event occurred which necessitated a change in weaponry. That event has yet to be told.

A less fantastic explanation exists for the first two lightsabers that Mace Windu wore for The Phantom Menace. When it came time for actor Samuel L. Jackson to pose for a publicity shot, the lightsaber he specifically requested was not available. When that image was republished, the correct lightsaber was composited onto Mace Windu's belt.

In the Star Wars ongoing comic series, this discrepancy is explained by Mace and fellow Jedi Master Eeth Koth participating in a Jedi tradition called the Concordance of Fealty. "Master Eeth Koth, I have something to return to you," says Windu. "It is a product of your own hands which you once entrusted to mine. In returning this lightsaber, I return your trust." So the weapon that Windu is seen carrying in that publicity still is actually Eeth Koth's.

I hope that explains your question. Even though the saber trading thing is EU...
