Shadow Angel
Not saying that I HATE the EU (expanded universe), but after reading this parody, my viewpoint on the matter has been totally changed. I can see why Lucas refuses to acgknowledge it as "true Star Wars." Anywho, this is absolutely HILARIOUS. Be warned, though. If you're a die-hard EU fan, you might find this offensive. This is a spoof of Episode II, but since it was written in, like, 2000, it's obviously a bit off (just like the EU!) http://www.soulofthejedi.net/cgi-bin/stories/display.cgi?id=51&sort=date&cat=9 Final note: it might be a bit slow in the beginning, but I've read this guy's stuf for 3 days straight. It's a blast. The home page is http://www.soulofthejedi.net. Here,http://www.soulofthejedi.net/cgi-bin/stories/stories.cgi?sort=date&cat=9 you can read the Episode III spoof and They Came from Beyond the Outer Rim, among other things. Redwing
Don't get me wrong, I love...well, alot of the EU, but I don't pretend to be a "die-hard" EU fan. It definitely has glaring flaws... Whether you love EU or not, this is definitely hilarious!!
Shadow Angel
Originally posted by Boba Rhett That's totally hilarious! Thank you so much for pointing that out, Shadow. No problem. Reminds me of when I was flipping through the "New Essential Guide to Characters." As I was reading, I found how characters I've never even heard of before seemed more important than key figures such as Luke, or Lando, or Palps. And how the EU has transformed the SW mythos into a Trekkie re-hash of countless superweapons that are 10 times better than the Death Star, the bad guys being cloned and reused in countless novels, how the "Solo-babies" are all-powerful Force-users that put all canon characters to shame (that's right, even your beloved Yoda), and that they can fall and come back from the Dark Side without a problem, and worst of all, how they made Luke Skywalker into a wimpy pussy that gets beat up even by his own students! That's just WRONG! He's supposed to be the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy!

AgentSmith
Man that is indeed offensive. Funny too but a bit out there on the bashing part. If he doesn't like the Eu why doesn't he just say so and respect people who do? He shouldn't bash it so harshly. Besides, when I got to chapter 3 he implies Mara Jade is an EU only character. Actually Mara Jade is in ROTJ, you can see her in Jabba's palace walking past behind Luke. It is true they do some weird stuff in the EU, but hey Lucas did such a great job with the movies it's probably hard as hell to come even close to being so original or entertaining in EU books or comics. Many of the stories involving the Solo children were written for kids, to be read by kids. It's not going to easily please or appeal to adults. And for all his comments and implications that the EU is a ripoff and stuff, Lucas has everything canon in the movies, doesn't need the EU, EU just follows up and milks it out, etc... well thanks to Episode II I have a nice whopper of an argument to slam those discussions shut. Aayla Secura. Says it all. Originated in the Dark Horse Star Wars EU comics, penciled by Jan Duursema. George Lucas was inspired by the cover art of the 'Darkness' comic featuring Aayla so he decided to put her in Episode II (For those of you who wouldn't know, she a blue Twil'k Jedi Knight. She was played by Amy Allen and can be seen in the Jedi Temple and Arena battle -which she survives, officially recognized by GL- sadly not more scenes because she was added during post-production .) hence making her, her past, her character 100% canon. BCanr2d2
As for EU, not all is crap, not all is good. For those, there are plenty that try to out do each other, that they try and show each new Jedi more powerful than the next. This is where people don't like the EU, which leaves the character of Luke and Anakin/Vader not as powerful as they are made to be in the movie. I don't like these either, as much I haven't read them, I find the "Bigger and Better" character approach a weak way of writing instead of making us interested in someone important, but not the next Super Jedi or has a Force blocking animal or material, character development is just as intriguing... I am a selective EU person, if it adding something small to what the movie has to offer, i.e. Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter or Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina, I think they are good books, which don't go and try and show up the main characters, but give us a good insight into some interesting characters. I do have the Episode 1 book, and the first chapter makes Anakin's rage against the Tusken Raiders even the more powerful.... I am STILL waiting for the E2 book I ordered, to give me the little details that can be skipped over in the movie..

fernandotabet
EU is ridiculous. George Lucas sad that even supervising some stuff that LucasArts do about Expanded, he doesn't think Expanded Universe can be considerated as part as the Star Wars universe. I do too. I think that the saga is over at the Episode VI, when the last sith master dies.

kaibigan
I dont know what is wrong with EU. I mean Lucas doesnt acknowledge it but he makes all authors clear their books through him first. And when he does the CGI changes to 4, 5, and 6 he purposely adds stuff from EU like Dash Rendar's ship and alot of other stuff. Lets face it. Lucas has done some good things but the man is flaky as heck. I got a box with Tony the Tiger on it less flaky then him. Kaito Fett
Darth Talliusc
i admit that some of the EU is crappy but dont discount the EU altogether, read timothy zahns thrawn trilogy and tell me the EU sucks, but yeah some of it is really dumb, and yeah im a diehard EU fan. Jedi_Monk
This page is cracking me up! It's true! OH, IT'S ALL TRUE!!! I dont know what is wrong with EU. I mean Lucas doesnt acknowledge it but he makes all authors clear their books through him first. I don't think Lucas has read any of the EU books except maybe Shadows of the Empire... "through him" means he gives rights to Del Rey to publish books with the brand name on them, it doesn't mean he actually reads them. The content of each book is reviewed by people at Lucas Licensing, but they obviously don't know what Lucas had or has in mind for the Prequels. And Mara Jade is only an EU character who was interjected into an existing extra after the fact by an author. Lucas wasn't standing around on the Jabba's Palace set and saying to himself, "Oh yeah, that extra's playing a character named Mara Jade who will marry Luke someday in the timeframe after my movies are over." Don't get me wrong, I like the character of Mara Jade... but the authors basically ruined her after Zahn's trilo. Love those redheads, tho Furthermore, the character of Aayla, the blue-Jedi Twi'lek, is canon--her history as told in the EU, however, is as uncanonical as anything else in the EU so And lastly... I've read Zahn... it doesn't stand up to Lucas' vision... as a start for the post-RotJ-EU, it's terrible sci-fi drivel.
Divine Spirit
Forgetting where i was for a second, i thought this thread was going to an exciting political discussion about the European Union...how wrong i was! and Lucas refuses it to be real Star Wars???? i always thought he did! surely he must do if EU is produced under the Star Wars name? Even though the whole area of EU is under doubt whether it is real i still love to read more adventures about Star Wars. i would hate it if it was just limited to the films and i couldnt find out what would happen in the lives of all the characters! SharaFett
yea one main thing i dont like about eu is how they portray luke. i dont care what they say in eu, my own view of luke after rotj is that he's awesome with a lightsaber and has no equal in the galaxy. And I've said it many times before and it's starting to annoy me how many people here do nothing but bashing, stop being so freaking negative!!! You don't like it? Fine! Just say 'Personally I don't like it.' and that's it! We know, message understood. There's no need to continuously talk trash and denigrating Star Wars and other people's/Star Wars fans work, show it no respect whatsoever because you don't personally like it. (This goes for the people who trash the EU, people who trash the prequels, and those who trash mostly everything but conveniently never mention they love the games...) In life you have to be able to laugh about things and not take it too seriuosly, but it's no longer humour, it's plain rudeness from compulsive jealousy and your own psychological feelings of inadequacy that put forth the need to set yourself up as superior to others and/or their work. You know what that makes you look like? ... Bad and fake fans. No true love or appreciation for Star Wars, whether it be George Lucas' own work or any EU related work. I love everything about Star Wars, Lucas' work and the EU. The stuff that doesn't really interest me or appeal to me? I leave it alone and respect the work people put into it. Truly disappointing you bashers and flamers are.
